This patisserie ("cukiernia" in Polish language) offers local cakes, pastries and ice-creams. There is simple interior with small tables and two tables under umbrellas in front during summer (always busy). The service is average, the choice quite good, prices average. The triangle, decorative top of a house of the patisserie is interesting as well.
Ciasto z borówkami: a pastry covered by a jelly with fresh forest bilberries available seasonally (in summer), I suppose - yummy :-). The "U Szkota" (At Scotsman's) restaurant and pub offers both Scottish and a few Polish meals. The dark interiors looks very romantic. The waiter surely wears a Scottish skirt. The restaurant is a bit expensive although there are less expensive meals in the menu as well. The main course cost 19 - 49 zl, delicious (I am sure) Polish soups cost 3 - 9 zl. For me it was the place where I made two new friends: a young woman working temporarily in Germany and a young guy - a yuppie hard working on some business papers. We were talking over half an hour. They both know each other and often go to that pub for some drinks and just to relax. There is a pub called Flisak (Chlebnicka 9/10) right to the U Szkota. You may go dowstairs to check the place. I was told that it's crowded with young folks on Friday and Saturday evening/night unless it's closed for a private party.
I have never been to Scotland (yet) and I have no idea what Scottish cuisine is like. But unfortunatelly I was not hungry and I ordered only drinks there. Well, I would order Scottish goulash with drop dumplings (19 zl). Is it a Scottish meal? Polish Beer by Landad In Poland, depending on generation, we have two different drinking cultures: 1. vodka culture - older generation, they like to drink it pure. Thanks to that generation Poland is famous for vodka and sometimes for drinking a bit too much. 2. beer culture - younger generation, too young to be famous yet ;-)
Please, find below a choice of Polish beer that I recomment you to try: 1. ZYWIEC - very good beer, middle bitter. 2. LECH - semi bitter ;) 3. EB - semi bitter ;) 4. TYSKIE - semi bitter;) 5. WARKA - rather switter taste, the smell is not too good. 6. WARKA STRONG - 7%, tastes a bit like mix of beer and spirit, smells not too good. 7. GDANSKIE - special from Gdansk, a bit bitter. 8. BOSMAN 9. KARMI (karamel, coffee) - 1,5% of alcohol, light beer for women :) 10. SPECJAL - bitter 11. ZUBR - no idea ;) 12. DEBOWE MOCNE - bitter 13. DOG IN THE FOG - purly Polish beer but with English name - sweet. *** If you found the tip useful, please RATE it. by Raimix After long walk in old part and was slowly moving near Mariacki Cathedral and have met KUS bar. The place was full of local people, so that why I wanted to try it – looked like popular bar to fill my stomach with something delicious. Actually my choose was right – it is place with huge portions of food, still quite normal prices (about 3-4 euros for good portion). Maraska counter by gosiaPL If it's great coffe or tea and delicious pastry you're after, Maraska is your place. They have a big variety of coffees and teas as well as pastry. Inside it's like a little store, you can also buy some nice china! The place is self-service: you need to order & pay at the counter and then the waiter brings your order to the table. We sat in the patio outside and had some delicious pascha which is a type of very light and fluffy cheesecake. My top recommendation there! Coffee and cake was at $4 per person. The Goldwasser's patio by gosiaPL The Goldwasser is right in Dlugie Pobrzeze (Long Warf), the pedestrian area along the Motlawa river, with a view on the Maritime Museum on the other side. You can watch boats as you are enjoying your meal. I had roast chicken on toast with salad, which was delicious, and beer of course! Janet had ceasar's salad and liked it too. For a light lunch like this plus mineral water be prepared to spend around $10 but if you'd like a full meal/dinner, it will cost more than that. A specialty to try there is the Goldwasser Liqueur which contains pure gold particles. I abstained so can't say anything about it. By the way, the restaurant also has apartments to let but I've never tried those. by katmag This place is good...at least I think so because my dinner was good. My friend hated hers. It's an Italian restaurant and the thing that sets it apart is it's beautiful stately location. The outside eating area is surrounded by buildings with stunningly intricate facades that make for a really great atmosphere of antiquity and beauty. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture, but I recommend it. Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Ul. Grobla 1 #13

The restaurant is placed in the underground of the Old Town Hall, whose cellar conceals besides the restaurant also the Irish Pub (in the lower basement). The restaurant is leaded by gastronomic company which serves sophisticated international food (also old Polish cousine). As you can see in the picture, the desing is a bit special. Next to the standard tables for two, you can find, huge iron tables with thrones for 10 people. The design gives you an opportunity to feel like a queen/king for a while;-). Note: From the first sight it looks like a luxury place... don't worry, it is very cosy. The food is served in a nice way, at reasonable prices - compering to the rest of the restaurants in the Old Town of Gdansk. In the early afternoon they serve cheap dinners. They have also a good choice of wine and well equiped bar. Customers type: politicians, actors, people of free professions. The atmosphere is relaxing. At weekends - booking in advance is a good idea, due to the "closed parties" organized by the restaurants. You may pay by credit card. Notice that the stuff takes your credit card to the office and you don't see it for a while :-(.
- Zurek (traditional Polish soup made from fermented rye). - Poledwica wolowa (sirloin steak) z serem Roquefot (Roquefot cheese) and carpaccio leśne z borówkami (Forest carpaccio with bilberries). and hot Aple Cake. *** If you find the tip useful, please RATE it. View from Cafe Kamienica by gosiaPL When you've walked along the charming Mariacka St. and feel like having lunch, check Cafe Kamienica which has a small patio right in the street (pedestrian only, no traffic). You will enjoy the view on St. Mary's Church, listen to street musicians playing classical music, watch the people passing by... Ours was a quick lunch, just toast with ham & cheese and really good coffee. But they have a nice selection of salads too. We paid the equivalent of $5 each but salads may be up to $8. It's my recommendation for every visitor who is looking for very good local food in decent atmosphere. The location is the best I could imagine: the summer garden hidden behind green plants in the heart of the old town just by the Motlawa river best seen from the terrace upstairs. There are appartments to rent in the upper floors. Our waitor was not only very nice and fast but he replied perfectly to all our questions about the food served which helped us to choose what we wanted. There are Polish and European (Italian, French) meals in the menu including various fish, mix of various meats (82 zl - a dish for two!) and others. Well, the restaurant is more expensive than average but not very expensive and they serve large meals. And good quality must cost, am I wrong? Soups cost 14 - 20 zl (a large bowl), main course cost 20 - 74 zl (€1 = 4 zl, US$1 = 3.3 zl). I've got to know that the restaurant reflects heritage of its name. The Goldwasser drink, I never heard about before, is a sweet, strong liquor of herbal and spicy flavour and aroma. It tends to be colourless and yellowish. Danziger Goldwasser (in German: Gold Water from Danzig = Gdansk) is the registered tradename of the liquer that has been produced since the 16th century in Gdansk. I surely had to try it and it was interesting experience but not my choice of drinks. I'd better had Polish beer: Zywiec or Okocim or some wine (Spanish Amontillado - medium dry :-).
I had delicious "rosól" - the chicken soup with home-made vermicelli. Then I ordered home-made pierogi (large bowl at economic prize) with forest mushrooms (Polish speciality!) and meat which I prize 5 stars! Urszula had turbot (62 zl) which tasted great and was definetely worth the price.
