When in Poland one should really take the chance to watch a speedway match live. There is an enormous interest and all kinds of people come to the matches, absoloutly not only men or youngsters. When I was in Gdansk for the premier this year the most engaged fan around me was a slightly older woman. You bet she was scolding the riders if they didn't win the heats (and they didn't win many heats in fact...)!! But there are also organized supporter groups with flags, drums, fireworks, banderols and streamers plus lots of cheers. Really an experience to be one of 10 or 15.000 spectators.
I post two links further down the page, the first one to GKS Wybrzeze home page and the second to their description of how to get there. If you point at "Klub" on top and then "Stadion" you can see an oversight on the stadium. The pages are all in Polish but easy to understand. "Terminarz" means match order.
The etrance fee is 30PLN for adults and 20 for reduced price; program is 10PLN. You can sit wherever you want exept for the tribune which would cost you 40PLN (reduced 30PLN.)
For more pictures see my travelogue.
Remember not to bring anything to drink, that will be confiscated.

Sometimes it is nice to rest for few hours away from the noisy city. You can do it in many ways in Gdansk, one of them is horseriding. We have several schools for this sport. Below you will find the addresses:

Waters of the Baltic Sea in the Bay of Gdansk, are usually quiet as the bay is protected by long Hel Peninsula and thus open exclusively to the East. However there are strong water currents in the bay. It's a high wind area that has to attract windsurfers. Indeed, I saw a lot of them when I was walking along the Jelitkowo beach. There are numerous schools of windsurfing and kitesurfing on the Hel peninsula.
Equipment: There is a windsurfing school on the beach which both give winsurfing classes and hires necessary equipment.

If you have some extra time in 3-cities, you can learn how to windsurf or if you already know how to do it, you can enjoy surfing on Gdansk Bay.
Equipment: For 55PLN you will get 60min lesson with your own trainer and full equipment.
If there are 2 of you, for 400PLN you will have 5 lessons (40PLN from 1 person) with the trainer. Try it! It is a great fun! :)

Gdansk is located by the Motlawa River (downtown) and along the Dead Vistula River, a few kilometers down its mouth to the Baltic Sea. The Dead Vistula is linked with a number of nearby lakes.
In 2001 my friends sailed so called Radunia Loop ("kolko Radunskie"), took a lot of awesome pictures and had a great fun. It's the 40 km of scenic sail (an option is kayaking) along the Radunia River and 10 lakes near Gdansk (part of the Great Masurian Lakes). The friends wanted me to join them but unfortunately I couldn't. They climbed the mountain or better to say the hill of Wiezyca which is the highest point all around the European Lowland (Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Russia) although it's only 328.6 m high.
Equipment: My friends hired an inland yacht in Gdansk for a week in summer 2001. As I remember well they paid some 100 zl (25 euros) per day for a yacht for up 10 persons.
For up-to-date info ask at any Gdansk tourist information office, follow the link given below or start your search for yacht charters in Gdansk and the Great Masurian Lakes from:

Unfortunatelly water in the Baltic Sea is cold most of the summer, 21 - 22 C at the end of August when I was there. But it didn't discouraged a few young folks on the jelitkowo beaxh who were crazy bathing. Warning: there is no lifeguards on this beach. But the sea bed lowers very slowly that makes bathing safer.
Equipment: Swim suit (topless allowed) or bathing shorts.

I have taken a short but very relaxing walk along a beach in Gdansk district of Jelitkowo. Althogh there were quite many folks doing the same at some parts of the beach I enjoyed the views over the sea, a fresh wind, a sound of the waves, watching others and soft sand under my feet.
Equipment: You have to wear something, nudity is forbidden on that beach. Topless is surely allowed although bot popular while walking.

The Stadium Lechii is home to the football team Lechia Gdansk, which plays in the second Polish league (2005/06). The stadium was inaugurated in 1945. It is nowadays an all-seater arena with a capacity of about 24.000.

There are quite many teens riding a skateboard on walking pathways in Gdansk parks. I've saw them riding along the Canal of Radunia. They always chose empty places not to disturb pedestrians.
Equipment: A skateboard and casual dress, more casual better.

Harpagan is organised twice a year - in Spring and in Autumn. The main thing to do is just walking. You should walk through 100 kilometers in 24 hours. It may sound easy, but it's not... Many tried, not many did it.
You get on the start a map, where are pointed checkpoints situated in terrain. There are two circles which have got 50 kilometers. You must get to all this chekpoints using map.
There is also simmilar try for bikers, but they need to pass 200 kilometers in 12 hours, what is also difficult (remember, that it's played in forest, not on opened space).
I strongly recommend it for all, who would like to check his/her abilities.
Equipment: You don't need anything special. Of course that, what you've got on yoursefl must be comfortable, becouse you'll have it on youself for long time.
