When you are in Gdynia in summer you can go for a day trip to Koscierzyna to visit an open air museum of steam locomotives.Of course it's open not only in summer, but in July and August at weekends there's a train from Gdynia to Koscierzyna which is pulled by a steam locomotive and usually consists of old carriages.The trip takes about 2 hours and in Koscierzyna you can visit a museum. Even in high season you meet there only a few tourists and if you're interested in those steam engines you can climb and explore them wherever you want. Leave a Comment

In my previous tip I recommended a visit to Koscierzyna. Once you get there and you have a car, think about a visit to the next open air museum. The museum is situated in Wdzydze in the beautiful surroundigs. On the display there are many old houses, mills, a church etc.There are also two small country restaurants, but I haven't eaten there so I can't recommend. When you are in Gdynia go for a walk to Kamienna Gora - a hill with a big cross on the top. No problem with finding it as it is in the very centre of the town. The sooner you go there, the better you do because now you can still admire the picturesque view. But the trees are growing all the time...

When in Gdynia you must take a sea trip to Baltiysk which is in Russia; it takes a whole day to go there and back and costs about 3$; unfortunately passengers are not allowed to leave (as it is a military area) but can watch the port and do some extremely cheap shopping in a duty free shop aboard. Gdynia has also got its wooden pier and it's worth a visit although it's not as long and famous as that in Sopot, by the pier there also a cliff of Orlowo. if you like fish-by the pier you can buy fresh. - we have a museum of the sea (fish and other sea creatures), called OCEANARIUM, at the very end of Skwer Kosciuszki street
- a ship-museum DAR POMORZA ("The Gift of Pomerania"), also by the Skwer Kosciuszki, in your left when coming from the city center
- a warship-museum BLYSKAWICA (same location)
- a very nice residential district of Kamienna Gora, overlooking the sea and the port, with beautiful villas and a great point to shoot the panorama of the city; nice place for romantic walks ;)
- a very commercial and western-looking center (basically it's one street, hehe, Swietojanska), now it's being restaurated, will look nice by the time you come here Leave a Comment

It is a museum located at the harbour and you will find it without any problems.
It is the ship 91 metres long. It was bouilt in 1909 year and it was bought in 1929 year as a training ship for Naval School in Poland.
Its first voyage as a training shi was in year 1930. It was a great school for many generations of students of Naval School. They had their first experiences on this ship.
Dar Pomorza had 102 voyages also around the world.
His last voyage was in year 1981 and since year 1983 this ship has been at the Gdynia's harbour and it is opened for tourists.
You absolutely have to see this special ship as you can watch not only deck of the ship but also go to the rooms of the crew and know the conditions of this people during the voyages.
