Definitely walking is the best way to move around as the centre of the town is not very big but if you're tired you can take a bus or trolleybus, almost a 100% of which is accessible for wheelchairs. Gdynia has also got a good train connection with Sopot and Gdansk (by so called fast city train which operates quite often, especially in the summer).
If you drive a car it's worth mentioning that Gdynia is drivers friendly- free parking zones are everywhere in the centre - with one exception - on the main street Swietojanska you can park up to 30 mins.
Wzgórze św. Maksymilian SKM station has been just gone through a complete renovation. The station is one of many SKM – commuter train station from which I start my everyday short trips to Sopot, Gdansk or Wejherowo. The name derives from the name of the district, which is actually situated on hills. The most important hill, in fact moraine, is one where a church is located, the church of friars – Franciscans. Before the II World War it was called Marshal Foch Hill, later in the communist times Marceli Nowotko Hill. Now St. Maksymilian Kolbe is a patron of the district and the station as well.
It is just near Gdynia Główna SKM station, so many people not familiar with the local topography are nervously, while travelling by SKM train, try to get information from others, if it’s the proper station and it’s time to get off the train. The characteristic feature is high, red-brick tower of the church on the hill easily seen from the windows of the train. But to get to Gdynia Główna you have to go ahead.
For those who wants to start their tour in Gdynia, I think it’s a good place to begin with. There’s City Centre Hall and the Świętojańska Street is here. You can easily reach the sea.
I walked to Gdynia from Sopot. Walking along the beach which has many nice scenes along the way.
I had to go to the train station to head back to Gdansk. The photo was taken at the train station in Gdynia.
This is the Gdynia train station. You can safely leave your luggage here for only a couple of dollars while you go walking around and exploring.,
