Don't buy any food, especially meat in the supermarket called Auchan. Their methods of saving on bad groceries are really savage and disgusting. I don't deny, maybe in other countries this French company is doing well, but unfortunately it's impossible with Polish menagers :(

You have to be really careful, visiting the railway station in Katowice. It became a stamping ground of all rogues, topers, druggies (which sometimes attack people with their syringes) and generally all people you wouldn't want to meet. For traveling within the country, I definitely recommend you a coach if you don't have your own vehicle. Not only because of the railway stations but because of the general condition of our trains. It's nothing to be proud of, believe me! ;-)

The main railway station in Katowice is simply not nice place. It is better to wait for train even outside when the weather is nice.:) The worst thing wbout the station is that there are lots of homeless people and they often ask for the money. Moreover, the smell in the air is not nice in the building. In additon, prices are different in shops in the Katowice station building. You may buy something cheaper or more expensive, even in a next shop. Be careful and check proces before you decide to buy anything....

Be on your guard if you find yourself in the Katowice train station. It has the reputation of being the most dangerous one in the country. There are a lot of homeless people here at night and sometimes when you don't give them money they get violent. These are desperate people and it's best to stay away from them and wait in a populated area. Also there are some homeless people sick with HIV and AIDS here and there have been reports of them stabbing people with needles. Very unsafe place at night. Don't wander around. Leave a Comment

Katowice is one of the most dangerous cities in Poland. Accodring to police statistics, there are 1542 crimes for 100 thousand citizens... This number is the higest crime rate compering to other cities in Poland. Second on the list is Krakow with a number of 1535 crimes. However, the number is high it seems to me a little bit strange as during my one year stay in Katowice I haven't faced any dangerous situation, even in so called `dangerous quarters` like: Zaleze or Giszowiec....

Do you know the stereotype of Polish man being a thief? Even if it's only a stereotype, I can assure you it's not groundless, and it's always better to be a bit paranoid! ;-)

Oh boy, this place is polluted. I've never been to a place with worse tapwater. You didn't need hairspray or hairgel after your shower, the water made the trick! In general it's not a healthy place where you'll want to stay for very long periods. Leave a Comment

there are alot of people living on the streets here or are desparate, there is alot of begging, even with children coming into restaurants and asking for money. we did not venture out at night as we felt it was unsafe to do so. also is is not advised to go to the train station at night as it has a reputation for being unsafe. by deeper_blue Some of the roads in the city are simply terrible, apparantly they have improved a lot recently. Beware the tramlines when driving and the inaccurate motorway entrance signs! Leave a Comment
