Fondest memory: You need a functional speech disorder to pronounce the city name Szczecin. The funny polish name should have been renamed to Stettin for a long time ago. Anyway, foreigners call it by the english name "Stettin". Use it if you like to.

The city Szczecin was the organizer of the final of 2007 Tall Ships' Race - the Race and Regatta of Big Sailing Ships. About 6 thousands of sailors visited the city and approximately over 2 millions of tourists.
It took place from 4 to 7 August 2007.

Favorite thing: ABOUT SZCZECIN
Szczecin is the historical capital of Western Pomerania, and lies on the bank of the Odra River and the southern end of the Bay of Szczecin. The city is located 12 km from the Polish-German border and 60 km from the Baltic Sea. Szczecin has 460 000 inhabitants.
Szczecin is a city with over thousand years of tradition and turbulent history. Through ages Szczecin developed from a little village to the prominent port city. In 13th century the city was granted its municipal character. Its most illustrious period was the time of the 500-year reign of the dukes of the Griffin dynasty, when the city belonged to the Hanseatic League. In the 17th century the city was very often the reason of attacks of neighbouring countries. The shipping trade has developed in XIX century. The 2nd World War destroyed 60-70% of the city and harbour, but Szczecin was reconstructed after the war and now is one of the most beautiful cities of Poland.
The hundreds years of the Szczecin history left the numerous traces of the past. The most splendid of them are the Castle of Pomeranian Dukes and the block of buildings situated on the slope along the Odra River, called Waly Chrobrego. The other valuable objects are also the gothic City Hall from 14th century and several churches. Along with a number of historical places, there are a lot of theatres, Philharmonic hall, museums, galleries, libraries and other cultural places in the city. There are also several schools of higher education, e.g. Technical University, Agricultural University, Maritime University, Szczecin University, Pomeranian Medical University.
The region of Szczecin is one of the most beautiful in Poland, with its vast forests, clear lakes and many beautiful places to be discovered by tourists.
