    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This restaurant we went to three times first I had the sunday lunch Lamb was my choice.
Some off my friends had the cod but my favourite was the home made steak pie.
I have not eaten a Knickbocker glory for years when I saw this on the menu I could not resist.
The deserts are very good from the home made apple pie banana split strawbery melba.
In all this is a great family run restaurant well worth a visit and the prices very resonable.

Favorite Dish: Roast lamb and Yorkshire pudding but my favourite was the home made steak pie with skeak chips peas and gravy.

Tres coroas- Three crowns: Restaurant with a view

by einokj Updated Apr 4, 2011

The portuguese food shouldn't be considered as a coulinaristic experience which it isn't. Ok, there are really good meals but at least I get bored for a fish food after some days. This restaurant was the best I experienced int he city. It has great views towards the sea, as well. They make their own strawberry booze which they sell out, as well. The portions are huge. Atmosphere is nice.

Favorite Dish: Especially the melon and smoked ham was very splendid. If I have to choose from various fish-meals, the Valecian Paelha seems bit better than others.

    Amici's: Italian worth seeking out

by Paisleypaul Updated Apr 4, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Amici's is very slightly West past the Old Town, not far from the Dolphin roundabout and very near Hotel Boa Vista and Hotel Gale. Bright and clean, a welcome diversion from some of the rather formulaic eateries nearer the strip.

Favorite Dish: Great local and European wines, recommended is any fish dish especially seafood and pasta. In common with so many Italian restaurants outwith Italy, pasta tends to be a main course rather than 'primi'.

We ate here on our first night I wanted to go back but there are so many restaurants you are spoilt for choice.
This restaurant was close to our hotel in a quite location. The food was very good and not expensive. Also wine in the restaurants is very resonable.
The ambience I would say Porugese And the staff were friendly and the service was good.

Favorite Dish: I had Portugese Lamb from the bone this was delicious.

  • Koala garden restaurant: Great food

This restaurant is very good. If you want to try something different like ostereich steak or kangaroo steak then this the place to eat. The also do your traditional steaks and fish dishes and many more. The service is excellent, very pleasant and the food is good quality. You can actually look at the different steaks they have before you order.

If you collect a "Freemaps best of Albufeira & Montechoro" from anywhere in the old town you will find this restaurant on there. It is number 12 on the Montechoro side. It is only a 10 minute bus drive from the old town albufeira.

Favorite Dish: Starter - Homemade Tomato soup (Delicious)
Main - Kangaroo steak with mushroom sauce (Amazing taste)
Pudding - Chocolate mud cake (Pure indulgance)

    Churrasqueira Beira: Tradicional Portuguese

by intertraveler Updated Sep 16, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

this restaurand is very popular with the portugese people.
There is the standard menu and the specials which I had. When you go for a meal most restaurants bring you bread butter olives which they charge about 1.5 eur each.
This restaurant brought bread cheese and ham and charged 10 eur for two people so be aware.
The prices were resonable and if you want to try the local food this is the restaurant to go to.

Favorite Dish: I had suckling pig with rice in sauce with salad.

  • BELLA VISTA SPORTS CAFE: THE BEST BAR IN ALBUFEIRA

    by chalkie68 Written Jul 26, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I have just got back from Albufeira and I can honestly say that the best bar in the town – whether you are talking about The Old Town or The Strip – is without question – BELLA VISTA SPORTS CAFE. It is situated between the old town and the strip just off the roundabout with the two wristwatches. It is located above and behind the Pingo Doce Supermarket (Supermecado) and also behind the McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets facing The Brisa Sol Hotel. The little train that travels around Albufeira leaves you off at the Brisa Sol so it is easy to get to and as you may know the train will then take you back to The Strip or The Old Town and all for only 4 euros per day unlimited travel. Failing that if you do not wish to take the train a taxi will cost you about 4 euros to get to Bella Vista Sports Cafe from The Strip or The Old Town. So all in all, well worth the price to get there which you will save in drinks and food.

The bar is very modern but thankfully has old fashioned prices. A large beer will cost you 1 euro 70 cents and is served in a beer mug which has been cooled in the freezer – most refreshing. And as for the food – well it is superb value. I dare anyone to eat the Bella Vista’s Giant Toastie in one sitting and priced at 5 euros it is as good as two meals in one. The bar also serves various salads, burgers and of course pizza. All are EXCELLENT.
I must admit that I did not like most of the bars I attended in Albufeira because I thought all they wanted was your money – well I was a tourist. But Bella Vista Sports run by a guy named Bruno Xavier is the exception. It is a warm, welcoming, friendly and most enjoyable place to spend an evening on your own or with family and friends. As the name suggests it is a Sports Bar with four large plasma screens showing different sports from around the world. And for the more energetic among you the Bar also has its own outdoor football pitch, beach volleyball area, tennis, darts board and the best pool table in Albufeira where you can play non-stop for a full hour for only 5 euros or if you like just have one game (you only get billed for the time you use – no hassle at all).

Bruno is a really nice and genuine guy who finds the time to speak to all of his customers which is a nice touch. I kept him going as he is a Canadian from birth who looks and sounds like the legendary 7-time American Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong (he is actually an ex-footballer). Bruno enjoys mixing with the young and old alike at his bar and nothing is too much trouble for him.

So if you are going to Albufeira check out the Bella Vista Sports Cafe and tell Bruno Chalkie recommended a visit to his bar. And by the way it is open from 9.00am to 4.00am!

Pampas Steakhouse: Good esplanade and lunch

by solopes Updated Mar 20, 2014

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fernanda wanted to stay in the sun; I wanted the shade; hard situation until we saw Pampas esplanade.

We sat at the edge of the shade and had a surprisingly good meal. I say surprisingly because, from outside, it seemed a fast food restaurant. Well... it isn't!

Everything was perfect, and the price very acceptable for Albufeira standards.

    I will remember it!

"Chico" and his staff will make you feel like family. They are helpful and knowledgable and really make you feel welcome as opposed to another sale. They have a Fado night on Fidays that is free but you MUST reserve in advance. Don't wait till Friday to try them out, you are missing a good thing.

Favorite Dish: The Cod Algarve style was great and the Cataplanas for 2 are also a good choice. Price indicated includes a bottle of house wine and is still at the low end of the range.Portions are larger than most and we didn't need appetizers.

The Panacee: Try the chicken piri piri

    by vivienne59 Written Aug 29, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

this lovely little restaurant is 250 yards from the club oceano apartments.
We spent two very enjoyable evenings here, the standards are very high, and the service is excellent.
Chicken piri piri is a must, not too hot, and the fish is highly recommended.
It is a portugese restaurant, and not your regular english type bar/pub.
Highly reccomend it, for an intimate meal for two, or a bigger party.

Favorite Dish: Chicken piri piri, is not as hot here as in some other places. They sell the sauce in jars to take away with you, and it is home made.

Cafe Oceano: In the best place

by solopes Updated Mar 20, 2014

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Usually, I skip restaurants in first line of the beach; some of them sell views instead of food, some other include the "view tax" in the invoice.

This time I accepted the risk, and choose a restaurant by the sea, in the old fisherman's beach.

Well, the food was good and, if the "views tax" was included, it was not excessive.

    Favorite Dish: Mixed grilled fish

O Penedo: Avoid at all cost

    by w.morris Written Dec 9, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

My partner and I were in Albufeira Portugal in Sept 2006 to celebrate my 40th Birthday. I can honestly say that every restaurant and bar we went to we were made very welcome with one exception O PENEDO. It is situated on the main lane that takes you to the beach (I cant remember the street name). The restuarant staff were rude, the food was absolutley average and the service was frankly appalling. Avoid it at all costs and I am sure you will enjoy your stay in Albufiera

    Favorite Dish: none
