I left Faro by bus to Sevilla in Spain. The trip was 13 Euro (2006) and took about 3:40 h. Keep in mind that there is a 1 hour time difference between Portugal and Spain. The main bus company which serves Faro is "Eva buses". They run buses along the Algarve coast, to most major Portuguese cities and to the bordering Spainish cities. Faro's bus station is located just between the train station and the Marina. Leave a Comment

I arrived in Faro by train from Lisbon. There are about 4 daily direct trains serving the Lisbon to Faro route. Trains leave from both Oriente and Entrecampos station in Lisbon. The trip takes about 3:30 h and my ticket was 17,50 Euro (2006). The price varies depending on the type of train. Faro's train station is centrally located, just next to the sea and northwest of the Marina. Leave a Comment

Faro on foot by HORSCHECK Faro's city centre isn't too big, therefore all sights are always within reach of a 20 minute walk. Especially the Old Town with its narrow alleyways is best explored on foot. Just make sure that you wear proper shoes for cobbled streets. When walking around Faro keep your eyes open for the details; you often see nice azulejos (colourful tiles) at the buildings. Please read my "Local custom" tip for more information about azulejos. No 16 Bus:to the airport and the beach by Ekaterinburg, 1 more photos One of the joys of a trip to Faro is the sheer convenience of everything. The airport bus runs until 9.17 p.m on weekdays and 8.07p.m. on weekends. We walked out of the Arrivals area , found the Eva Aeropuerto bus stop and could not believe our eyes when a bus turned up five minutes later. Service with a smile, no hassle and the cost ? EUR 1.63 each . The Bus Station in Faro is situated on Avenida da Republica, right behind the Eva Hotel and quite close to the harbour. From the bus station, most places in town are a 5-10 minute walk. Buses run from here to all the towns and villages in the Algarve, as well as inter-city buses to Lisbon and Porto. The airport is only about 6km outside town and the bus trip takes about 15 minutes. This is a huge advantage in terms of not having to waste all of your last day getting to the airport. Buses 16 or 18 are the ones to catch. The second photo is a copy of the timetable to and from the airport Theme: BusPhone: 289 899 760 ( Faro )Website: www.eva-bus.com Other Contact: ckientes@eva-bus,com

Faro's train station is about 200metres from the bus station, further along Avenida da Republica, at Largo da Estacao. It's a traditional station building with the name decoratively tiled ( photo 2) and the sea right behind it. From here you can catch intercity trains to Lisbon and beyond or the Lagos/Vila Real de Sto. Antonio line. This brings you from one side of The Algarve to the other and from Faro to the Spanish border the track runs right along the coast. We took this line from Faro to Lagos, hoping for a trip past all the coastal resorts. It didn't work out quite like that as the track runs parallel with the coast but too far inland for any sea views. We did see a lot of the countryside though and enjoyed the endless orange groves and almond blossoms. The trip from Faro to Lagos takes about 1 hour 35 minutes and costs around EUR 13. I find it quite convenient travelling by bus from Faro to various villages or town in the Algarve. There are direct buses from Faro bus stations to the main places in that region such as Albufeira, Tavira, Loulè and Lagos. The bus station in Faro is located near the harbour. Leave a Comment

Obviously most people fly to Faro. It has regular and chartered flights from everywhere in Northern Europe especially UK, Germany and Northern France. Scheduled flights also from Lisbon, Porto, London and German cities. The train from Lisbon is a scenic but slow ride. Long distance buses also run. From the airport you can get buses or taxis into the city. Faro train station is in the city centre. The local bus service (yellow EVA buses) is efficient and cheap. Timetables are posted in Portuguese and English. Buses do not carry route (line) numbers as they do elsewhere in Europe. The network covers the local area and major towns but routes to inland towns are few and services relatively infrequent. Buses do not run after about 8pm in the evening even in the largest towns. Many routes only run every 2 - 3 hours at weekends. The bus company has a website with an interactive timetable at www.eva-bus.com. Beware going by bus to Albufeira - the new Bus station is a mile outside the town! The local train service is limited to a single line along the coast. Local trains run every 1 - 2 hours. Between Faro and Portimao the stations are a long way from the towns they are named after! The train tends to go where the bus does not. I don't drive so I depend on the buses and trains. If you plan properly you can get about to most places. Unless you have a profound death-wish, do not even think about hiring a cycle. There are only two speeds for Portuguese drivers, fast and faster and add that to the hundreds of tourists in hire cars and you have the highest accident rate probably in Europe. by acilina There is a train stop in Fuzeta. Train that goes all long the Algarve. But we prefer the car. From Fuzeta we must take a small boat to go to the beach in the Armona Island. It's a very peasant 5 minute trip. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

If flying to Faro, I would recommend a taxi from the airport to the station, although there are frequent buses. Around Faro itself, it is probably worth travelling on foot. Roads seem quite busy. To get further afield, I would recommend using the CP railway service. Fares are cheap and services fairly frequent. Trains run to places worth visting such as Lagos, Albufeira and Barreiro (for Lisbon). Leave a Comment Theme: Train

by Branco The best way to get there is by car. If You go from Lisbon You have a highway almost concluded until there. In the Algarve You have a highway crossing it all that connect the Atlantic to Spain. So, if You came from Spain You also can get the Algarve (and Faro) by car. You can also take a plain to go to Algarve. Faro Airport is 6 km away from Faro; 15 km from the Quinta do Lago; 20 km from Quarteira/Vilamoura; 30 km from Tavira; 35 km from Albufeira; 55 km from Portimão; 55 km from V.R.S. António; 70 km from Lagos. If You have a boat, the marina is waiting for You. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat
