Faro Cathedral

The Cathedral of Faro was remodelled several times and presents today elements of different styles like Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque.

You hardly can see it on my photo but when you are there take a closer look at the tower. On top of the spire is a small iron stork, symbol of Portugal.

Old part of the city

Bells of the church

Particularly attractive is the old part of the city surrounded still by the Roman walls. Inside a spacious open square that was once the site of the Roman Forum is a 13th Century Cathedral that faces the 18th Century Episcopal palace.

An interesting building is the neighbouring 16th Century Convent that is now turned into the home of the city’s archaeological museum.

If you're interested in spending a fun day with the family, then Zoomarine is the place for you. Just outside the well known town of Albufeira, Zoomarine has a wide range of shows and will make you spend a very entertaining day with the family.
Dolphin shows, seal, parrots, sea lions, small pools for children to have fun, a giant wheel, restaurants, the usual in such parks, but it's a very nice place and well organized.
The dolphin show is a lot of fun and has many original elements.

One of the most known places in Algar Seco is the 'boneca' (doll, in english). The rock formation got that name because from the outside, it suposedly seems as if it's shaped like a little girl's head.

Near Carvoeiro, there's a beautiful place which is called 'Algar Seco'. It's a location with very interesting rock formations, some underwater caves, good fishing spots, 1 or 2 restaurants...a beautiful place well worth the visit.

Guia
This small village is located near the main Highway No.125, only six kms. away from Albufeira. The village was established during Roman times and was called Alfontes by the Arabs, meaning beyond the water spring.
Guia is one of the county’s three parishes on the Algarve coastline, occupying an area of 27 square kms. located within the 148 square kms. of the county’s total area.
The village origins are difficult to determine, but oral tradition tells us that the site of the chapel of Nossa Srª da Guia is where the Virgin Mary once appeared.
Consequently, the village name has a religious origin relating to the existence of the chapel which was built prior to the 16th century.
The vow to Our Lady of Guia is ancient and at one time drew pilgrims from all over the Algarve to make their promises to the Virgin Mary, which according to tradition gave rise to the annual Guia Fair held from October 7th to 9th, in the chapel surroundings

Despite its age and several earthquakes Silves castle remains substantially intact and is well worth a visit.

Visit Lagos. It's a really nice coastal town with some beautiful cliffs.
As I mentioned; the cliffs. You can take a boatride in small motorboats, which is a lot of fun. Ask if you can make a stop at a safe spot so you can take a dive.
