From the summit of the Monchique mountains you will have a great view over the region. In the far South you can even see the sea. But of course much of the view depends on the weather. Myself, I was not that lucky, but the deep hanging clouds made it an interesting experience.

If you are on top of the Monchique mountain you can have a rest in the Planalto-Foia, which is a sort of snack bar. As I was on the mountain during rather cold and rainy weather, I was happy to find a coffea here to drink. Food was not in the focus.

Military site

As this is the highest peak in the south the military has another radar site here and again this place is OFF LIMITS to the tourist. However you can walk around the site to get a better view of the coast down below.

Monkey hill

Favorite thing: The locals call this monkey hill, as this is the place all the monkeys (tourist) come to climb on the rocks and see the view of the southern coast.

The view is awesome on clear days.
