Lagos beach.

Favorite thing: In Lagos you also have a very nice little beach right by the center of town where you can walk down in a couple of minutes and it´s a fine little place with nice sand and a nice vibe and a nice place to go if you can live without the party at Meia Praia.

Favorite thing: The warm weather, it was very hot at times but generally it was about 35 degrees when we were there.I will always remember the constant blue skies every day ,we only had two days that were slightly cloudy, and of course that nice Atlantic breeze.
oh how I wish I was there now.

Fondest memory: The people ,were very good to us and patient.
Considering we speak no Portuguese at all apart from the odd phrase. they just know you are English and before you get a chance to speak, they are speaking English to you.
Nothing was too much trouble and they were never rushed, such a relaxing time to be had by all ,in Lagos.
If you are looking for a place with good restaurants good weather, laid back beaches then this is for you.

Buying a home in Lagos

Favorite thing: For anyone looking to buy or rent a vacation home, Lagos has several agencies and services catering to its large ex-pat community. When I was there, asking prices did not seem that outrageous compared to other parts of Western Europe.

Visit Lagos at X-mas!

Favorite thing: At Christmas Lagos has a very special atmosphere. The temperature is at daytime often very pleasent (over 20 cels), also due to the warm sea and the lots of hours of sun.
At nighttime on the boulevard (Avenida de Descrombrimentos) palmtrees will lighten up, thanks to the many mini-bulbs. Very special X-mas trees! After 12 o clock at 31 of december spectalulair fireworks will appear just at the opposite site of the Avenida.
Don't miss it! You won't forget this....

Fondest memory: Away from Lagos, I will miss the relaxed atmosphere, the perfect climate (most hours of sun and cleanest air of Europe), the kind people, the clean beaches (white sands surrounded by the most spectaculair rock-formations), the small-scale lay-out of the town, wiht finishethings made with a great eye of details (parks, roundabouts, etc).
This makes I will have to go back at least three times a year (and never miss X-mas time...).

Meia Praia

Favorite thing: Meia Praia means "Half Beach". It is located about three kilometers northeast of Lagos and is perhaps the reason why most tourists come to Lagos. However, it is not over-crowded by tourists. You have enough space to sunbath or to build a sand castle.

Sandy Beaches

Sandy beaches

Favorite thing: Along the coast you will find many beautiful beaches filled with white sand and gentle waves. Many of the beaches here on the southern coast of Portugal are clean and empty with the exception of places like Pria de Roca and some of the better known resort towns.

We like Lagos as there are fewer people there.

Favorite thing: LAGOS I

Aceitar o confuso o disforme a ocultação

Arte Poética I

Fondest memory: LAGOS II
I
Lagos onde reenventei o mundo num verão ido
Lagos onde encontrei
Uma nova forma do visível sem memória
Clara como a cal concreta como a cal
Lagos onde aprendi a viver rente
Ao instante mais nítido e recente

Lagos que digo como passado agora
Como verão ido absurdamente ausente
Quase estranho a mim e nunca tido

II

IV
Ou poderemos Abril ter perdido
O dia inicial inteiro e limpo
Que habitou nosso tempo mais concreto?

Será que vamos paralelamente
Relembrar e chorar como um verão ido
O país linear e transparente

E sua luz de prumo e de projecto

Lagos Walls
acilina profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

acilina 667 reviews

Favorite thing: This is one door in the city walls. Inside is the old historical town, outside is the modern Lagos and the large amount of beaches around the city.

Fondest memory: Built under kings Manuel I and João III (16th century) on former building sites, these walls surrounded the whole city. Apart from the section overlooking the sea, there are still other pieces, with defense bastions, on the inside area of the city. On one wall is the famous Manuelino-style window from where king D. Sebastião is said to have attended an open-air celebration of Mass before leaving for Alcácer-Quibir.

S. Antonio church
acilina profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

acilina 667 reviews

Favorite thing: Another street. The church you see is S. António, The inside of the chappel is all in golden carven wood, but the others rooms are now fonctioning as a museum, where you can see many signs of the ancient inhabitants of this region.

Fondest memory: Built before 1707 and rebuilt in 1769, after being greatly damage by the 1755 earthquake, this church was listed as a national monument in 1924. Well worth visiting for the remarkable 18th-century blue and white glazed tiles, as well for the lovely Baroque giltwood that frames 8 paintings, supposedly by Rasquinho, an artist from Loulé. The dome boast a magnificent painting featuring, in the centre, a Portuguese coat of arms from the 18th century.
