  • Take a trip on the Dolphin Safaris RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat), which leaves from the Lagos Harbour, when we went it cost about 35 euros each but well worth it,The trip last approx 45mins,Taking in the views of the coastline as well, past the grotto's and boats .
Their record for finding the Dolphins is excellent and the boat is very fast with jet engines, this is the only Boat of its class in Europe and was specially built for the role in mind.Being a boater myself I was very impressed with their handling skills, it's very safe. Don't worry about being sea sick, it is very stable and they will assure you that nobody should suffer from sea sickness. (enjoy the ride).
However we did go on one trip when it was rough and to be honest on that occasion it was uncomfortable, they had to cut down the speed, but our safety was always their first concern and they made the decision to come in closer to calmer waters.
When I went to the office expressing my disappointment of not seeing dolphins on account of it being rough, they gave me a good discount for another trip.
The next trip was a better day and we were not to be disappointed.
Best time to go is in the mornings, before the afternoon breeze gets up.
This Boat is very very fast.
The advantage with that is you get to dolphins that bit quicker.
This is a video of the dolphins off lagos taken by someone else.

  • A fascinating entertaining and educational oceanographic facility taking its theme from the links the Algarve has with the sea. Take your family to the Zoo marine and enjoy a wonderful day watching dolphins, seals, sharks, turtles, exotic birds, seabirds, crocodiles and tropical fish.

Zoo marines characteristics, exhibitions and shows of an exceptionally high standard make it unique in Portugal.

In a tranquil setting offset by lakes and gardens Zoo marine has created the right environment to reveal the "secrets of the sea".

The park has all the requisite amenities you need for a happy family outing: restaurants, shops, amusements and swimming pools.

  • If this is your first visit to Lagos, you simply must take a "grotto tour". Step into a small fishing boat, let your local fisherman be your guide, and witness from the water, the distinctive and magnificent cliffs that surround the Lagos area. It is truly a sight unseen! Your guide will navigate around and under the intriguing rock formations, take you into caves and point out the many secluded beaches that surround the town.

You can take the grotto tour by signing-up with one of the vendors along marble sidewalk in front of town. Alternatively, catch a boat at Praia Dona Ana or at Ponte da Piedad. This tour offers a little variety to your beach day. The fisherman bring the boats right to the beach, and you can generally get a good rate here
Approximately €10 to €20 per person, based on your starting point

    Aqualand
  • Tip Rating:
  • Aqualand Algarve is located in the central area of the Algarve, near the town of Alcantarilha (Armação de Pera), 15 Km from Albufeira. The park has water attractions for all tastes, some totally unique in the country, such as the Banzai, which give moments of joy, fun, adventure and relaxation.
    Banzai Boggan
Get ready to discover the attraction that makes Aqualand Algarve a unique water park in Portugal. Try to surf on your board after descending a nearly vertical drop of 23 meters and gaining a dizzy speed. The sort of ride you would tell your friends about. Do you dare?

  • The Fortress of Sagres,
What a view, from the outside just looks like a large fort? but inside its like the tardis.
I was amazed just how big it was inside? this is one of those places that is not what it seems inside.
A national monument and Natural Park .
you can expect to spend at least 2hrs here if you walk around the whole site.
But to my surprise I came across the suicide fisherman, fishing off the steep cliffs.
You got to have nerves of steel to fish like they do.
There were a few people we came across having picnics there too and explained that they spend all day there just watching the world go by.
There is an exhibition center and a 16th century Church inside, The Church of Nossa Senhora.
and the scenery is simple and unspoilt.

  • Believed to be the End of the World, until the discovery and European colonization of the Americas, this is where the cliffs of the most South-westerly point of Europe jut into the Atlantic Ocean.
From the Phoenicians rounding the cape to head north for the tin islands, to Sir Francis Drake, heading east to Cadiz, to modern-day yachtsmen, tankers and freighters, this was and still is an important navigational reference point.
Perched above the edge of the rolling waves is a lighthouse, whose beam can be seen up to 32 miles away at sea. This landmark is set within the remaining buildings of the 17th Century Franciscan Convent. Originally a hermitage founded in the 13th Century A.D., the convent was established in the 15th Century.

    Bom Dia
  • Tip Rating:
  • I went out on the Bom Dia for a family fishing trip for 3 hours, had a great time. The crew were very welcoming and knew their fishing. Caught loads of fish including octopus? I never knew you could catch them on rod and line.
A good afternoon was had by all; I can highly recommend a trip out with them they really did look after us...
And what makes that difference is they love their fishing too. Go you won't be disappointed.

Guarding the entrance to the Harbour is the Forte da Ponta da Bandeira " fort at the Flag point" who's real name is actually Fortaleza Nossa Senhora da Penha de franca which was constructed at the end of the 17th Century at the mouth of the river which flows around Lgos, The fort because of it's strategic position provides an ocean gateway defending the city of Lagos from attack by enemy ships entering the bay.

Construction began about 1680 and finished in 1690 acording to the inscription in stone over the main door, also recording it's dedication to Soberana and Santa Virgem Senhora da penha do Franca, hence it's name. It is known locally as the Fortaleza da Ponta da Bandeira after the area in which it is situated.

This is certainly one of the best and most well preserved examples of this type of millitary fortification in the ancient kingdom of the Algarve, thanks mainly to restoration work carried out between 1958 and 1960

It is now used to house exhibitions and an entrance fee is currently charged at Euro 2.20
