Situated between the Castle and the Cathedral this is a nice Shop and Cafe, there is quite a large bar inside but not very many chairs outside, the shop area is quite large and sells a wide range of goods, it's well worth a browse around inside, they sell everything from Key rings to Leather Bags. there are some signs up inside saying No Photo's but sometimes i have trouble seeing them sort of signs and i managed to get a couple before being told off ;-)
I had a beer in here on a recent visit (Oct 2010) The large bar inside has bar stools made from old bicycle saddles and they serve Beers them in their own large pot Tankards which are also available to buy.
What to buy: Good place for a drink when you come out of the Castle, prices for the goods inside are a little high

The little supermarket in Alte has a wealth of everyday essentials stacked on its many shelves. We popped in often during our stay mostly to buy snack and drinks for the boys. Steer clear of the plastic wine bottles filled with local wine - they are filled on the premises from huge barrels so you won't get quality only cheap wine!! One good buy we did discover here was Fonseca Porto it is a lot cheaper here in supermarkets than the Airport.
What to buy: Any time I travel be it near or far I love to buy postcards. I can spend ages choosing & usually buy loads. One day I will work out what to do with them!! Oh and the porto especially the white is divine.
What to pay: Just a few Euros for the postcards and a little more for the port

You won't have a lot of choice in the shopping stakes in this little village. The craft and souvenir shop is worth a look. They sell lots of pottery and ceramic gifits, pretty lace items such as table clothes and a variety of gifts made from cork all at reasonable prices.
What to buy: All sorts of souveniers
What to pay: Prices are reasonable with nothing too expensive
