If you are driving from Lisbon you will strike toll booths. It will take around 3 hrs to drive from Lisbon to Vila Real de Santo Antonio in normal traffic – longer in summer because of stopping at the tolls. There is a route which does not involve tolls which is on the IC1.
By Air - The nearest airport to Vila Real de Santo Antonio is at Faro. There is a daily schedule for Portugalia and Air Portugal for flights between Lisbon and Faro.
By Ferry - There are regular ferries which depart about every 30 mins to Ayamonte on the Spanish side of the river. They start about 8.30am in the morning through to around 8.00pm at night but you should check the timetables locally.
