Happening in the beggining of August, the medieval fair is extraordinary. First for is size that covers almost all the city, second for the incredible number of participants, it seems like every single person in the city decides to dress in medieval clothes.
There are handicrafts, medieval restaurants, products of the region and several recriations happening throughout the day. A fun place not to miss.
Visionarium - Center of Science of Europarque is an intercative museum of science located in Espargo, Santa Maria da Feira, in the perimeter of the center of Congress of Europarque, and belonging to the Associação Empresarial de Portugal(AEP).
Visionarium, in it's essence, is similar to the City of the Science of La Villette, in Paris, France, or to Exploratorium of San Francisco, in the USA, where it is possible to accomplish experiences manipulating the exposed equipments. The Party of Fogaceiras, takes place in Santa Maria da Feira (every year on 20th January) in execution of a vote done to S. Sebastião, in the XVII century, for occasion of an epidemic. In this pilgrimage, that attracts crowds, they are sold the “fogaças”, a sweet bread of wheat that it constitutes one of the marks of the city. The procession leaves the Town Hall in the morning to the “Igreja Matriz”, making part of him dozens of children, dressed of white with a strip to the waist, that take to the head a decorated “fogaça”. The procession is closed by three girls that transport to the head a miniature of the Castle. In the Church takes place a solemn mass, with the blessing of the “fogaças” and, in the afternoon, takes place the Religious Parade that travels downtown with S. Sebastião's and Our Lady’s Images.
