  • Modernity

    Monsanto Favorites

It's a difficult compromise, to preserve the traditional look of the villages, and to give locals some comfort. Nowhere I noticed a so remarkable presence id electric wires and TV antennas as in Monsanto. Couldn't be otherwise?

  • Tower Lucano

    Monsanto Things to Do

Also called the clock tower, for obvious reasons, this is the tallest building in the village, providing good views to those who don't risk the hard climbing to the castle. Atop of this 14th century tower, a silvery clock was the official prize for "the most Portuguese village of Portugal".

  • Toboggan Ride

    Madeira Tourist Traps

The toboggan ride in Funchal is a must do. Sliding down the hill in a wicker basket at the mercy of your 2 'drivers'. You have traffic on the roads & a busy crossing to negotiate!! My wife when first seeing the run from the queue at the top was very apprehensive but when we reached the bottom, she asked to go on again. When you reach the bottom...

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Had a very quick and cheap codfish dish which turned out to be bad...as my digestion of a 2pm lunch ended at 10pm...no dinner and burping all day long...bad service as well as employees are students and don't know (have not learned) how to work in a restaurant...

    Favorite Dish: Mineral water...

Meimoa is a nice little town. The main highlight might be the river beach with a bar and a soccer field. There is also a beautiful medieval bridge built over an old roman one. Meimoa must have been important during roman times but now there are no longer any monuments remaining from those times. The name of the village can be of Muslim origin...

Monsanto is a lovely village perched in a mountain. The houses made of local stones, the small streets, the beautiful flowers everywhere. There is a walking tour around the mountain with impressive views...

  • Cabril Dam

    Pedrógão Pequeno Things to Do

Surrounded by some of the best landscapes of Portugal, this dam (that I only visited once) is a quiet place for nautic activities, and a good destination for a calm, cheap and healthy brake in each day stress, in one of the most preserved areas of Portugal.

    Pedrógão Pequeno Sports & Outdoors

How do I classify this? The calm waters in Cabril dam don't allow any kind of rafting, but when you spend a morning building a raft and use it to cross the lagoon in a very funny trip, what else could I call it?I don't know if the experience is available to public in general, but we had it there, and it was a very amusing time in the dam.
