Located in a transformed XIV century chapel, the bar A Capella features live music, being the most regular place to listen to Coimbra Fado. Sometimes other things happen there.
Be prepared for a young and lively place, and if you're lucky enough to get some fado, try to understand what makes it so different from Lisbon's fado.

Our first Fado experience. We loved it. I believe it is on Rua do Caro de Deus. Its in an old church. Small admission, reasonable drink prices. Definately worth the search. You can get directions from the visitors center.

The city's large student population guarantees an active, sometimes raucous, nightlife. You'll find the bars around the Sé Velha and its square, Largo da Sé Velha, packed with students, professors, and locals, who drink, gossip, and discuss academic priorities. My favorite experience is hopping randomly from bar to bar.

There are always lots of universitary students in this bar.
The esplanade as one of the most beautiful panoramic views over the Botanic Garden and river Mondego.

This little nightclub off of Praca da Republica is supposedly popular with students and locals, but we hardly saw any students in Coimbra. Was it a holiday? I don't know where they all were, but the town was certainly quiet for a Saturday night.

a bit scruffy, but beautiful beer-hall by the townsquare (the square by the cathedral, the beerhall is situated to the right when you´re facing the cathedral.) If not going for a drink you should at least catch a glimpse of the beautiful ornamented stoneceilings.

Coimbra is a city with an important university, so it's easy to find young people of different parts of the world.
Here I am trying to take a little beer. Super Bock is the name of the most popular beer in this part of Portugal.
Dress Code: There is a typical dress for people in university. I don't remember how they call it, but you can see people wearing this clothes in everywhere.
