    Faísca: Quality

The good typical dishes from Alentejo, are prepared with conscience and respect for costumers and traditions.

Going in a low season day, we found a service in a normal rhythm, unusual in those latitude. The three usual speeds in Alentejo (slow, very slow and stopped) were not respected, and we finished lunch in a very acceptable time, with a nice talk with the owner, who came in the end to check the costumers' satisfaction.

    We congratulated him... of course!

    Barraca de Pau: Disguised

by solopes Written Jun 25, 2014

A few kilometers out of town, in the way to Lisbon, we found a discreet restaurant by the road, that we used for a late lunch. The name and the look were not appealing, but inside things were better than expected, with a large room, a simple decoration but a clean ambiance.
I ordered "Frango de cabidela", a typical chicken with black rice, and the service was not as slow as usual in Alentejo. The lunch was good and cheap.
A positive impression of a popular and not outstanding place.

Back home i found that the tricky name is the name of the neighborhood.

This local restaurant was choosen by Antonio for or lunch, a good descision as they have local specialities for cheap prices and all of us could sit out in the big square of Large de S. Francisco.

Favorite Dish: Carne de Porco de Alentejana was my dish (my last pic), pieces of pork and some fish with french fries, that was fine and I enjoyed it.
They also had a local fish-soup on their menu, and this is what you see in my 2nd and 3rd pic : the soup is rather thin, almost just water, but with a lot of garlic, bread and vegetables and spices served in a soup-bowl and you get fish, an egg and green beans with it on the plate. Take out the soup on your plate and eat it that way. The portion in my photos is ment for 2 people, in a restaurant in Lisbon I was served the same dish all togeather in a soup-bowl.

This is a wonderful place with good prices and services. The place is not fancy, but tastefully decorated, and the food is good. Try the veal with potatoes, as good a meal as it can get on a cold winter day.

Food is just served to hurry people up. they don't really take in heart it's quality or cooking process this doesn't mean that is bad, just don't expect a great dish, just the normal one served in a restaurant where students join to have parties and where drinking comes first hehehe.

Favorite Dish: I'm vegetarian, I don't really go there, just put it here for information. For what I heard: steak with fries and white rice along with red wine, beer or sangria.

Restaurante Tipco Guião has a regional kitchen serving food from the Évora area.

Highly recommended if you are looking for a traditional way of dining.
