    Eagles Nest

Favorite thing: The village of Monsaraz has been known to the locals as Ninho das Aquias (Eagles Nest) for many years and from the view you can see why. From Monsaraz you can glimpse the Rio Guadiana that now composes this part of the border between the two nations.

    Old Chapel outside castle walls

by johnsakura Updated Jan 29, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    monsaraz alentejo portugal

Favorite thing: This old chapel is situated in front of the big entry gate of the village of Monsaraz. Nowadays its only used to have special efects going on over there. They put smoke and flames that seems that something is burning really strongly inside. Everyone just goes: "...call the firemen!!..." hehehe
The chapel is the almost black spot on the left side of the photograph.

    monsaraz alentejo portugal

Favorite thing: The views from its 13th Century castle walls are panoramic over both the plains of the Alentejo and towards the Spanish boarder. The courtyard of the Keep of the Castle has been adapted and is now used as an occasional Bullring whilst the viewing spectators line the castle walls.
    Castle's Arena on the picture.

    Take your time

by JoseMonteiro Updated Jun 30, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: In Monsaraz you'll have to walk those old stones on the ground. Old houses, some monumental, there is always something new to see. But you must take some time to meet people and talk to them (in portuguese, of course) and they'll tell you all about this town.

Fondest memory: Taste the snails made in this region of Alentejo.
