The most noticeable area of Benedita is the church and the surrounding buildings.
All of them modern and common, they are the signs of the great progress in the recent decades.
Great! Absolutely great!
Open for several decades as a restaurant for truck drivers and other drivers searching for a quick and cheap meal, this restaurant was converted, betting now in quality. And, in my last visit, it was perfect - originality, excellent taste, regular portions, kind service, and moderate prices.
I'm already talking with my friends to put it in our "To Go Restaurants"
Favorite Dish: Vitela na Pucara ( Veal in a pot - the cabbage... oh, the cabbage...)
Bacalhau com Grão (Codfish)
It's not exactly in Turquel (it is located in Benedita), but so close that I treat it as a local restaurant, and use it quite often for a family meal. It serves home made food, with good quality and a reasonable price.
The only drawback is the service (gentle but slow), and, sometimes, in the most "familiar" days, the noise of excited kids.
This tip was initially located in my Turquel's page. Now that I started my Benedita's page there's no reason to keep it out of the right place
Favorite Dish: Posta Mirandesa
Bacalhau à Lagareiro
Located in IC2, a few kilometers south of town, and close to Venda das Raparigas, this is a very interesting restaurant for a reasonable meal well priced. The food respects Portuguese traditions and is well elaborated. Trying to attract people passing by, it is also a restaurant were people go expressly to a trustful lunch or dinner.
The decoration, following the "traditional" pattern is discreet and well conceived.
Benedita has several bars.
As a hub of the regional education system, hundreds of students (and other) gather in weekends in and around bars, in a lively night.
Apolo has been opened to the public since in 1969 and since then it been able to reinvent itself. It seems that good music has been one of Apolo's secrets during all over those years but a close attention on image in more recent years has also played an important role - the job of a professional good taste designer is very noticeable in the inside decoration. Thus Apolo has been keeping attracting younger crowds. Fact is, Apolo has always been a place of reference, a place always in fashion.
Once at the Apolo if you get the lucky to be served by Fernando, one of the three Apolo owners, be aware that your whatever drink might be replaced every time you finish it. Unless you say "Please Stop" you will never run out of drink since Fernando really puts a lot of himself to refuel his customers. It happened to me not long ago: I came in for only one beer, got Fernando on duty - at the time I was not aware of the "please stop" rule - and ended up by leaving Apolo after 6 'drafts'. :-)
During day time Apolo works as a regular Coffee-Bar but on Friday & Saturday's nights the ambiance transfigures: the central tables are removed, home DJs set on work, crowds come in and beer & spirits run wild. Clientele is young and beautiful people are all over.
» "Moscatel on Ice" is a popular drink; LAVAZZA is the coffee brand, and SAGRES is the only beer on tap.
» Capacity: It seats 60 people and holds (Fridays & Saturdays' nights) up to 200 people standing.
» Open 6 days a week (closes on Sundays) from 7 a.m. until 4 a.m.. [That's correct: until 4 a.m. but do not get surprise if you see it still going on at 6 a.m. any given day of the week but Sundays].
Apolo Café is computerized with IPS Computer Systems by Aquilonis.
