Improvised restaurants are all over and are also very, very popular by the way.:). Everyone gets packed during dinner time.
Óbidos welcomes many visitors for its Medieval Fair and eating, as always, is part of the pleasure.

If you need a quick and cheap meal on the road, about two kilometers south of Obidos, in the old road to Lisbon and Peniche, you have this restaurant, with fast food prices to regular food quality.
It's a popular and common place, serious but not very elaborated cuisine, and a discreet but efficient service, and if it happens to you being with a large group, a good place to talk and laugh without the sensation of disturbing the other costumers.

A friend and I we're trying to have lunch, but when we read the menus, it seemed that all restaurants were beyond our budget. However, in Rua Direita, just opposite a 'ginjinha bar', we found a small cafe/restaurant, pretty cheap with nice food. Needless to say, we made all our meals there while in Obidos.

Alcaide is a nice restaurant located on Rue Direita, the main street of Obidos. The food was good, the portions were large, and the service was friendly. They had a full menu of Portuguese entrees, with both meat and seafood dishes. Just as you are approaching Serra D'el Rei from the IP6 you come across this restaurant on the left. We got three pizzas to go early one evening, although the restaurant was full each time we passed. Paula made some additional topping suggestions (tuna, shrimp, etc.) that turned out to be unique and delicious on a pizza straight from a wood fired oven. Our kids devoured their plain pizza and said it was the best they ever had (although admittedly Rochester does not have much to compare it to!). They also had a seafood case with very good looking fresh fish by the door.

Don't let the amazing facade fool you. We went in expecting innovative Portuguese cuisine and impeccable service- we ended up getting average food (that you can find at any basic restaurant) and lousy service. Moreover, our table was shoved up against the waiter's station, thus denying us the lovely view. This was a major disappointment with a nearly 200 euro price tag for four. I hope Graham Greene ate better when he was here!
