On our walk around the peninsula we found this chapel which is a famous sanctuary for pilgrims. The little church is very beautiful with blue and white tiles inside as well as some alcoves for praying. Please be very careful when taking pictures as not to disturb anyone praying. For that reason, I didn’t photograph everything. So no flash and beeping cameras, please. The church is thought to be dated back to the 12th century but its exact date is unknown. The ceramic panels are from the 18th century. In the main chapel pilgrims worship the Holy Mary. On the photo no. 5 you find the opening times. Leave a Comment

From Cabo Carvoeiro you can see the Berlenga islands on a clear day. There are boats from the port of Peniche if you want to visit the island. The cape features a light house which is restricted area and a spectacular rocky outcrop in the sea. There is a large car park by the cape and there are very clean underground public toilets by the car park. Please note that there are sometimes bus loads of tourists arriving. There are only three ways of getting here: You either walk like we did or you have a rental/own car/taxi or you are on a tour bus. Leave a Comment

From the Cabo Carvoeiro to the Praia do Porto de Aveiro Norte you will see a fantastic coastline with various viewpoints with spectacular rock formations. Watch the waves crashing against the rocks and sometimes the spray reaches very high. Beware of the warning signs though. This stretch of coastline is dangerous if you get too close and the rocks can suddenly crack and slip into the sea. There are some memorials of people that died. Leave a Comment

Driving around the Cape i noticed some rock fence farmlets with almost ramshackle houses on them but they made for interesting photos of living abodes with character - people set apart on their bits of land resisting the nearby residential development. But their bits were the prime close to the sea view bits! Idyllic? Leave a Comment

Peniche - Portugal by solopes Most of the visitors don't spend much time with the town itself. But if you have time, give it some minutes: it´s an old town, surrounded by strong and old walls, with the look and smells of the dominant sea, the life of the harbour, the gardens, and... attention... thousands of seagulls...
