Open Spaces & Long Walks!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Belem has many interesting things to see - historical monuments, an impressive monastery & a natural harbour on the banks of the River Tagus to name but a few.
One thing you will find, is that these attractions are B I G! This means that it can be a long walk between them - so wear comfortable walking shoes!
The large paved area in my pic is situated near the Discoveries Monument. It's decorated with mosaic which was a gift from the South African government in 1960 and represents a compass with the map of the world charting the routes taken by the Portuguese explorers.

As always . . .
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you visit in the winter, make sure you have a raincoat. It rained off and on the whole day we were there.
Photo Equipment: Make sure you have plenty of film and all the necessary camera gear. Belém is Lisbon's most photogenic area and you'll want to capture all of the impressive sights. This is a shot of my friend Pav just after loading his camera on the Torre de Belém.
