Favorite thing: The CAPE is located 42 km. west of Lisbon and 18 km. west of Sintra. Its co-ordinates are inscribed on a stone plaque on the monument at the site. The cliff rises out of the Atlantic Ocean to approximately 140 metres above sea level. This wild and majestic site is continental Europe's most western point and a very popular tourist attraction.

Favorite thing: The red and white LIGHTHOUSE which sits on top of the cliff, watches over the sea to help seafarers on their journey. Construction of the Lighthouse was completed in 1772.
The Lighthouse stands 72 feet high, with square masonry tower and red lantern. It was automated in 1980.

Favorite thing: Once home to a variety of plant life, the grounds of Cabo da Roca have been overrun with an invasive plant species, shown in my pic. The creeping, mat forming succulent species was introduced as ground cover by local residents several decades ago. Now it's everywhere.

Favorite thing: The land beaten road of the Cabeço of the Carrascal you'll find many birds, as the Cartaxo-of-head-black person, the Warbler, the Pintaroxo and the Petinha. With luck it will be able to sight the rare Ferreirinha of the Alps, that occurs in this area during the Autumn and Winter.

Favorite thing: The peacefulness of Cabo de Roca is one of the things that I like about this area. (except when all the tourist are there)
You can take a walk down along the cliff side and just listen to the sea crashing into the rocks down below.
It is one of the first places we take people who came to visit us when we were living there and it is one that they always remember.
