by a2lopes Be aware of the following: although the schedule is still on their webpage, since 2 years ago they discontinued the bus link between Lisbon airport and Cascais. Metroline is not suitable at the moment as the closest metro station is not yet within walking distance from the airport. The only options now are the following: 1 - bus + train - By far the cheapest option and not difficult to do. The link between the airport and Cais do Sodré train station (near the river Tejo) can be with Aerobus (25-30 min shuttle bus 3,00 euro running until 8:45pm) or (normal and slow 45 min) bus # 91 (1,45 euro). http://www.carris.pt/en/index.php?area=balcao&subarea=percursos_e_horarios From there the train to Cascais (30 min). Prices of train : single (1,45 euro), 10 trips (15,30 euro), and multi-trips ticket (5 days, 13,60 euro). There are ticket machines in all train stations (operating with banknotes and coins). http://www.cp.pt/ (ask for English version please) Note: there's a nother tip about train line with train timetable link. 2- taxi – there are 2 options: you buy a voucher at the information desk at the airport arrival (main lobby after customs) which costs 44,18euro weekdays until 8:30 pm, and 53,00 euro after that period and weekends; Alternatively you can take a “normal” taxi and they will run the taximeter + toll on the highway (motorway, freeway whatever you call it) which is roughly the same price (you can ask before entering the car but never accept the ride if they ask you more than 53 euro). 3 - there’s a mix alternative - taxi from airport to Cais do Sodré (not more than 15euro and only 10 min out of rush hours) + train. Lisbon Airport is the nearest airport for Cascais. I booked my flight early as Easyjet had a '25% off all flights' offer so I paid around £70 for my return flight. I was pleased to find that June (Poons) would be travelling on the same flight We departed at 13.05 and our expected arrival time was 15.50, we were delayed taking off, but weren't too late landing in Lisbon, to Sunshine!. My return flight departed 16.20 arriving in Liverpool at 19.00hrs. After clearing passport control and retrieving our bags, we headed to Tourist Information, to get a map, and to check on the bus details. Outside the arrivals hall are buses and taxis to take you to Lisbon. (more details on following tips) The airport has lots of shops, cafes, exchange bureaus etc. It's quite a pleasant place to spend time, before catching your flight home. The duty free stocks quite a good selection of food stuffs such as tinned sardines, packaged meats, cheeses etc as well as the usual wines, spirits, perfumes, cigarettes etc. Leave a Comment

by ncfg If you don’t have a car, the train is the best way to get there. At Cais do Sodré station in Lisbon you take the Line of Cascais and this lovely town is just at the end of the line. You have to take a ticket at the station. All the way you will enjoy an amazing view. Leave a Comment

by ncfg Well, Cascais is not a big town, so enjoy the beautiful streets, specially the ones that are closed to traffic. It is there where you can find the commercial heart of the town. Walking by side the coast it is a really enjoyable experience, to feel the sun in your face and to look at the sea admiring the beautiful yachts and boats sailing. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by a2lopes Cais do Sodré Station is 10 min walking from Praça doComércio (main plaza on the water front of Lisbon) and is served with bus and metro. The scenic view along the Tejo river and the beginning of the ocean between Lisbon and Cascais is one of the main reasons to travel by train between the 2 places. 30 min of pure pleasure. the train station is easy to find and it is quite straight forward, you buy your ticket from either the machine (one way) or the counter (for multiple trips), you hold it on to the small green machines or onto the gateways to validate it and you get on the train, There is a display at the front of each train which anounces it's destination. You can buy a wide variety of tickets from singles to multi trips. Theme: Train

The Cascais Marina http://www.marina-cascais.com/eng/index_eng.html has to offer a diversified range of infrastructures and facilities for those who love the ocean, boats and the sailing art. A meeting point and an place of amusement during night and daytime, here one can also be delighted with the large variety of bars and restaurants. by a2lopes Info about maps with mapquest > http://europe.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&country=PT&addtohistory=&address=&city=Cascais Best way of "Getting there" it's the online route planning of Via Michelin >http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/int/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm which includes directions, costs (petrol + toll), time, if scenic views are available, etc... Generally speaking > from Lisbon either take the A5 (motorway, highway, freeway) or the scenic views of "Marginal" N6. > from Sintra take the N9

The Estoril Coast is well served by a very efficient Public transport system. Our first experience started at the airport. As instructed, Hans and I took the Aerobus which had a pick-up area right in front of the terminal. It had an area for your luggage and the cost was Euro 3,50 per person. The Aerobus didn't depart until it was jam-packed with people - kinda annoying considering how much it cost to use it. After going through the city of Lisbon, we got off at the last stop - Cais do Sodre' train station (near the River Tego). From there we took the train to Cascais which was Euro 1,70 per person and the trip took about 30 minutes. The train travelled all along the beautiful coastline. The Cascais train station was only a few minutes walk to our Hotel Albergaria Valbom - very convenient and easy. During our stay, we also used the train for our Lisbon Tour and to get to Estoril for our Saturday night dinner - Euro 1,20 We did not use the local bus at all while in Cascais, but the bus station is conveniently located near Cascais Villa Mall. Taxi As Hans and I had to get to Lisbon Airport early Sunday morning ( our flight was at 8:30 a.m.) our hotel clerk pre-arranged a taxi for us. Bright and early - 5:00 a.m. our driver arrived. He was neatly dressed in a white shirt, he was very polite and he drove a beautiful Mercedes with leather interior - very luxurious - very professional. As it was early on a Sunday morning, there was absolutely no traffic all the way to the airport, which was about a 45 minute drive. The taxi fare was 50 Euros. The driver pointed out that he had to pay highway tolls and was almost apologetic about the price. Leave a Comment
