  • Olivier's: Sublime Dining Experience

Olivier's is something special. Its not cheap but then with 5 cold starters and 5 hot starters plus a main course it wouldnt be. Its 35euros in fact with drinks aextra and dessert another 6euros, but its a dining experience i wouldnt have missed for the world and would love to experience again. The restaurants decor is black wood with touches of red, red glaa goblets for water, red votives with tealights on the table. Its small and intimate, seats only 40 and reservations are a must!
I emailed ny hotel to ask them to book for me before I left London, which they did - so easy!
We starter with a basket of bread, fresh dense crusty white but also small pices of brown seeded bread.
Then it started - each dish was brought to the table, described by the waiter and we were left to enjoy. there is no menu - just a a parade of beautifully cooked local ingredients.
    This is what we enjoyed:
small kebabs of feta cheese, basil & cherry tomatoes
    potato salad with smoked salmon
    foie gras pate
    octopus with a provencal sauce
beef carpaccio with rocket & parmesan
portuguese sausage in vine leaves with a fried quails egg garnish
spaghetti with porcini and black truffles
    scallop with baby new potato
local cheese in filo pastry parcels with honey & walnuts
    Main course choices were
    foie gras with caramelised apples
    osso buco
    black pork with mango chutney
fillet of sea bas with a prwan cream sauce

What more can i say - it was a delight.
All the waiters spoke english and Oliviers sister natalie was there as maitre d.

Total with a bottle of marques de Borba 2005 £70 with tip - we were too full for dessert and coffee which was ashame!

    Favorite Dish: scallops

    From the Fado restaurants...

From the Fado restaurants (mostly run by the Fadistas themselves)in Lisbon, this one is probably one of the most famous: the Parreirinha de Alfama, Beco do Espirito Santo 1. Finding the place is not easy, but it is sure worthwhile!

Fado singer in the Parreirinha de Alfama. The singer is accompanied by the 'guitarrista' (sometimes they play solo) and the 'viola' (only to accompany the rhythm, never to be play solo).

Favorite Dish: In this restaurant a collection of the best Fado singers perform for you. You have to eat very slowly to hear them all they sing a few songs, then take a pause of at leat 20 minutes. So take your time and relax and taste the special dishes that are served here, e.g. the Caldo verde, a green soup or the Porco à alentejana, a combination of porc and seefood
