    Mosteiro dos Jerrnimos

    Most extraordinary place of Lisbon.
Built in memory of Vasco da gama's discovery of a sea route to India.
    Closed on holidays and mondays.

There are numerous narrow octagonal pillars, all intricately carved which seem to reach forever up to the amazing vaulted ceiling.

    Lisbon - Jardins do Imperio

The jardins do Imperio, or imperial gardens are the most beautifull gardens in Lisbon. With an enormous fountain andd many memorials and sculptures, is one of the best places to spend the evening.

You can go up inside the Monument to the Discoveries via a lift to a sixth floor where you can then take the stairs to the top to get great views over the Belem area and the Tagus River.

    Torre de Belem

A historical look-out post over the Tagus estuary, just down from the Monument of the Discoverers. It was closed when I was there, so I can't tell you much more about it.

I simply take the No. 15 tram from Baixa to Belem. You can visit the museum at the monument or walk along the river side.

The little tower, which was built by Francisco Arruda between 1515 and 1521, delights the eye with its setting on the edge of the Tejo.

Inside the monastery's church, check out the chapels, soaring vaulting, paintings, and sculptures. Don't forget the sarcophagi!

Despite most visitors focus in Vasco da Gama and Camões tombs, many other may be seen in Jeronimos, with evidence to those of king Manuel and his wife.

On the waters edge this large structure was erected in 1960 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator.
