Brahma: Young and swingin'
This little place is obviously new, has a crisp modern look and is a wi-fi spot if you want a place to use your laptop. The first time I went through it, the large flat screen TV on the wall was showing a lady doing her strip-tease act and there were quite a few young people present. That evening, my wife and I stopped for a dessert and coffee. No hot shows that evening.
Favorite Dish: Very good coffee and nice pastries. We had a large slice of chocolate cake with layers of cream and strawberry topping - a hard combination to beat.
Restaurant Palacio del Rei: Friendly local place with good food
This restaurant is nothing fancy and the food is basic but well prepared. It has a small dining room which is pleasant enough and the staff does very good service. We had a full dinner here one night and another came in for late sandwiches and beer. It is a pleasant and by and large local place which gives a pleasant welcome to the occasional tourist. The owner is proud of his English which he used to joke around with us a bit. Very welcoming.
Favorite Dish: The appetizers were olives, fried green beans, bread and butter, then we had a New York Strip steak and a pork filet, cubed potatoes gently fried (not greasy) and a simple but crisp salad. A simple but delicious meal accompanied by a Dao region smooth red wine. One dessert had a fancy name, "Sweet of Princess," which was had almonds, sugar, eggs and milk. This sounded intriguing, but they were out of it so we settled for a nice creme brule. The whole meal came to about 45 Euros for the two of us. Another evening we had sandwiches with chips and a glass of wine for 3.40 Euros each.
