There is an old church here as well which was used by monks. The monks that were here were outcast from the rest of the church in Portugal and to stay in the favor of the royal family they made ice which was used in the palace in Lisbon.

This pond has been reconstructed in recent years. It was originaly the pond that the monks would make ice with that was exported to the palace in Lisbon. The monks did this to stay in favor with the royal family of Portugal.
The reconstruction was done with the plans that were found which showed the exact measurements and depth of the pond.

Many of the famous Portuguese bike riders make Montjunto their training mountain. This is also the place of one of Portugals favorite sports.... Road Rally racing.
Durring parts of the year you can come up in the morning and watch the local champs practice peddling and racing up the curvey steep hills.

Favorite thing: Civilian TV and Radio antennas share the hill top with some of the history of Portugal. The mountain was once the home of some displaced monks.
