by quartinb arriving at the entrance of the pena park and if you want to go right to the palace there's this "kinda" bus that for 1 euro will take you up the hill onto the wonderfull pena palace. on a hot day going on foot is very dificult to climb, so the advice is to take it on the way up, and when you finish the visit of the palace, on the way down you may walk. sure it's easyer, and you get to aprecciate, the gardens sorrounding it. Rossio Station in Lisbon by Bwana_Brown We more or less stumbled onto the Rossio train station in downtown Lisbon, located between Rossio square and the end of Ave. da Liberdade - one of the main tourist hot spots. I actually took this photo because I liked the look of the building - only a few minutes later did we realize that this is one place to catch a cheap and efficient train to Sintra. From street level, we ascended a few floors to the ticket window where we quickly purchased our tickets to Sintra for the ridiculously low price of E2.60 each (round trip). Our timing was good and the modern train departed a few minutes later (they run about every 15 minutes), leaving the city by an underground tunnel for some distance before emerging into the sunlight. It is a very easy way to make the 45 minute trip if the inclination hits you! We had such a good day that we also drove to Sintra on the second last day of our holiday. That wasn't too bad either, the IC19 superhighway takes you directly from the city and it comes to an end at Sintra - so you don't have to worry about any turnoffs! Leave a Comment Theme: Train

by quartinb right at the historic centre a horse carriage taxi spot. very tipical and gorgeous scene. they are there to take tourists up the hill, about 4/5 miles to the pena parque and passing the moorish castle. sure is a charming way to go up, but, i must warn you: not the cheapest way. in fact, 100 euros for a 20 minutes ride, sure is expensive. if you care for those kind of attractions, well, is an experience to take. if you can't afford it and if you have no car, just take the bus. Sintra is a beautiful town to walk around, However, if you plan to visit the Pena Palace and/or the Moorish Castle, I advise you to take the bus, especially if you plan to spend only one day here. You can walk to these places and it is a very pretty walk on a road through a forest , but it is all uphill and it is much farther than it may appear on a map. If you have only one day here, this may take up alot of your time and you may not get to visit everything ,you wish to visit if you walk I bought a day pass for $3.30 euros and I felt it was money well spent. This gives you unlimited use for the day to ride bus 434 which takes you to many of the most popular places in Sintra and also to and from the train station. At the station, there is a tourist office where you can get a free map of Sintra and a bus schedule. You don't buy your pass here, though. You buy it from the driver. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

taxi stand is to the left of this building by yumyum To the left of the building on the photo you will find a taxi stand. Originally, we wanted to return to Cascais by bus but there is only an hourly departure from down by the railway station. When I enquired about the taxi fare I was told by a Lisbon taxi that he would guess that it would cost around 20 Euro. The tourist office wasn't able to quote me a price. The Lisbon taxi driver actually came to find us after a taxi from Cascais had arrived which was very nice of him. The taxi drive back was smooth and swift on wide roads and we were charged by what the meter said: Euro 11.60 Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Get ur Train&Bus ticked in Lisbon at the Stacions of Sete Rios or Entrecampos, it allows u to travel in Lisbon trains all the day (to go Sintra, Cascais ou Azambuja) and its very good if ur interested in using the Bus in Sintra (whats recomended if u dont have car to see the museums and the moors castle) U can also go to Boca do Inferno ou Cabo da Roca using this ticket, but all informacion is avaiable in the stacions where u buy it. The price its about 12 Euros day. Theme: Train

The bus connects the train station to the Palacio da Pena, passing by the Moorish castle and the National Palace. Fare is E3.95, but I believe you can buy a pass. Buses pass every 30 min. Seriously, do not walk up the mountain unless you are very fit and have time to spare. The walk is gruelling and time-consuming (although you will get to see amazing scenery and breathe fresh mountain air). The ride on the bus is akin riding the rollercoaster, and will surely remain as one of the most vivid impressions of your trip. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

View of Sintra by toonsarah Directions Catch. Once there you’ll need taxis, or horse-drawn carriages, to get to some of the further-flung sights. We came to Sintra from Cascais in coaches organised for us by the excellent VT Meeting hosts, and there are certainly opportunities for you to do the same in guided tours from Lisbon or the beach resorts. But it’s perfectly possible to visit Sintra independently, and given the wealth of sights to choose from I think this would be the better option, as I imagine that tour groups are rushed around in a effort to see a lot of things not very well rather than picking a few sights and devoting the time to them that their charms merit. Coming from Lisbon your best route is to take a train from Rossio Station in the heart of Lisbon. The journey takes about 30 minutes, and Sintra’s station is only a short walk from the centre. You could drive if you have a car but I wouldn’t recommend it if you plan to visit the sights in Sintra itself such as the National Palace and Quinta da Regaleira, as the streets are narrow and parking limited. If you’re coming from Cascais as we did you can catch a bus (I have variously seen bus 403 and 417 mentioned) and there is also a bus from Estoril (no 418) Theme: Other

Sintra train station by el_ruso Sintra is located at the end of the line, and you can catch a train in Lisbon at the Sete Rios station, located next to the Jardim Zoologico metro station. Trip from there takes about 30-35 min. Trains are clean and modern. Train arrive and depart on average every 15 min. To buy a ticket from the machine, you will need to push a button for SINTRA, and then enter the required amount (about E1 one way). Then the machine prints out the ticket and change. Be sure to save the ticket, as it is almost certain that a controller on the train will ask to see one. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

by acemj From Lisbon's Rossio station, there are trains running every fifteen minutes to Sintra. You'll walk all the way to the top of the station in Lisbon and buy your ticket just outside the platforms. It was only 2.50 Euros roundtrip on a very comfortable train pictured here. The trip takes about 50 minutes. ***UPDATE*** Rossio Station in Lisbon is closed for renovations. Sintra services terminate at Entrecampos Poente after running via Sete Rios.
