    Restaurante O Cacilheiro: Harborside seafood

by jumpingwithnorman Written Feb 13, 2013

Outdoor seating available. They actually have a No Smoking sign for the restaurant so that was kind of refreshing for Europe. It's right by the harbor and service was quick and pleasant.

Favorite Dish: For starters, you get bread with different pates (sardine, fish, etc) along with cheese and butter. That was so good and filling. They grill the frish as you order them and it was so delicious.
They also offer crab, shrimp and other delicacies. Overall food was very good!

Don Peixe Grill Restaurant: Fresh off the boats and onto your plate

by jumpingwithnorman Written Feb 13, 2013

Right in front of the harbor in the little town of Alcochete is a jewel of a place called Don Peixe.
Walk right up to the counter where they have fresh fish on display. Pick your dinner and faster than you can say PRESTO, they will prepare it for your dining pleasure. The food was SO fresh and tasty. The wait staff was very helpful. They even accept credit cards!

Favorite Dish: Fresh fish, of course. Never frozen.... yummy... The desserts were also good though not Portuguese at all. Chocolate is international though...

Exterior of the restaurant Fish!!! Cooked to order The perfect finish...

Pasteis de Belem: Tradition never tasted so good

by jumpingwithnorman Written Feb 13, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

So this place has been around since 1837... and if you have never had an egg custard and if you are in Portugal, you need to come down and taste a bit of history. They are open Monday through Sunday from 8am till late. Lines out the door are common but just be patient. It's faster to just order at the counter "to go" than to try and get a table. If you have a group of 12 or more, you can make reservations online through their website.

Favorite Dish: The egg custard is my favorite though they do serve a full menu of sandwiches, pizzas, etc. Their suspiros (meringues) are also wonderful.
