The lighthouse at Cabo Espichel was built in 1790 and is one of the oldest in Portugal. It is one of 30 lighthouses in Portugal which are open to the public. The first time the light system was changed since its construction was in 1883. Nowadays the light signal reaches up to 26 miles, the lighthouse is fully automated.
Wednesdays between 14:00 and 17:00 the lighthouse is open for the public.
If you come here you will visit a fantastic coast at Cabo Espichel. It is wild and fascinating, but on the other hand relaxing your mood as you will stand here on a cliff high above the Atlantic. I really liked the place and hope you will share my impressions if you come here.

Water was important for the people and animals here at the Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Cabo. Therefore the water that could be supplied by an aqueduct had to be stored. For this purpose the water house was built in 1770 with the aqueduct on the iniciative of King D. José I who had been on pilgrimage here.
