Choco (cuttlefish) restaurant

Setúbal is a fishing town. Its traditional dish is cuttlefish (choco). Many restaurants along Luisa Todi Avenue, serve this dish.
It is usually served fried and cut in stripes, or grilled. They can be served with ink or without ink.
Cuttlefish, as many other molluscs, have ink inside. The ink is just pigment used by the animal to spray on predators so as to temporarily blur their vision while they escape.

If you like seafood, do not forget to try this dish in Setúbal. Beware that some of the restaurants may not look nice and clean, so check all of them at Luisa Todi before deciding over which to go.

The restaurant in the picture is known as having the best cuttlefish in Setúbal.

Antonio took us to Cafe C, a small restaurant in the center of Setubal. It has a very promising BBQ outdoors that boded well for our meal....but as luck would have it, after we ordered (we were 7 people) the waitress returned to say that one of the meals was canceled...then returned a second time to tell us that another meal was not available...then yet a THIRD time to say that a certain type of fish that I had orderded was also finished..
Okay so that is the "sad" story of Antonio's choice, and yes we did give him a hard time, teasing him about his choice of restaurant, saying that next time he should choose a place that actually HAS FOOD ^O^
But the atmosphere was pleasant and the company good. Also the dishes that we did FINALLY get were all prepared well and of excellent quality.

Favorite Dish: Tal enjoyed a dish of BBQed ribs that were truly excellent as you can see in the photo. My skewer of meat was also very good.

Avenue of cafes and restaurants!

Avenida Luísa Todi is awashed with cafes and restaurants, also along the oceanside boardwalk that more or less goes with it. In the central part of this wide boulevard, you will find some outdoor cafes where locals and tourists chill out and enjoy the sun alike, but on the eastern side of the avenue, where the two separated lanes become one, there are various seafoood restaurants with great values and food, so don't miss it!

For those who enjoy the family-style food instead, there is Portugalia near the end of the boardwalk, and McDonald's on Avenida Luísa Todi a block away from the small street that the tourism office is located - You will see the sign "Turismo" while you walk back from the end of the boardwalk, but pass it, and you will see McDonald's on the same side.

Favorite Dish: The best menus from the seafood restaurants in the city are Arroz de Marisco (seafood rice stew) and calamaries. You will not believe how good they taste in such good values!

The town of Setubal, about 42 kms south of Lisbon looks like a small Lisbon. It is also a harbour town. The estuary of the river Sado, bordering the town of Setubal is also very broad.
