Behind the massive red door of this granite building, you have a huge space filled with wooden tables, portuguese style pavement and barrels in the walls. The food is simple and cheap and there are many tapas to try.
Adega Faustino is an old restaurant in Chaves that has been run for over 100 years by the same family.
The interior is really charming and very rustique where the floor is made from cobblestones.
It used to be a place where people from out of town could go for a drink after having sold their goods at the market and there used to be space to tie up your horse in the restaurant.
these days the horses are out and they have put in some tables so that people can sit and eat there too and the food is fantastic.
I have tried various things there and they specialise in local delicacies and they have great lamb and goat aswell as a large variety of smoked meat which is typical for Chaves.
The restaurant is run by a locely old lady who was about to turn 80 the last time i spoke to her and she usually walks around the tables to make sure everyone is doing good.
This is the kinda place you should go and eat if you want some local food and a local atmosphere.
Favorite Dish: They have really good smoked sussages.
