  • Discos/Nightclubs: all night at via rapida

at our first day in porto we ended up at ribeira, its a nice place near the at the river side with many bars/resturants and with very chill and relaxed people.. but still we wanted some more acion, so we met a guy from australia who told us to go to a place called via rapida! it was about 5-10 minutes with taxi.. we desided to go there next day, which was a very good idea! saturday night ment ladies night and we were told that the line could get upto 2 hours long, therefore we were a bit shocked when we came about 1:15 and there was only 5 people in the line! so we desided to wait outside to see if there was some more people comming! and they came, about 1:30 the line was going around 50 meters. in the door we got a card for 20 euros, we cold drink for this money and pay when we got outside agian! inside was a huge area to dance, allthough it was already filled with people! at about 2 o`clock the opened a new area, so the size of the disco dobbeled.. there was even a own disco in the backyard.. this night there was acctually more girls than boys, and all of them were pretty!! strange?! the music they played was exellent, and before we knew it the clock was 7:30 in the morning! still at that time it was difficult to walk threw the crowd.. we went home because we were going to the beach next day, but who knows how long the disco is open? onliest problem we had was when we were ordering beers.. at all the 9 bars inside there was a long line..the beers is also 3 times more expensive here than at ribeira.. but at via rapida you dont mind that ;P

Dress Code: normal jeans/denim and t-shirt.. it can get very hot inside, so dont bring a jacket!
its the same what kind of shoes you were! and if you boys bring girls you get inside 5 euros cheaper.. the girls get inside for 10 euros no matter what.

This is a mansion on the Boavista avenue, it's open until 4 but you better go before 1 if you want to drink something without having to fight for it.

You can find a lot of portuguish and also foreign people.

You can get there with the bus 21 (autocarro), but a taxi will cost you aroiund 5 € from the center.

Boyz R Us, Moinho de Vente, Cafe de Praca, Aria: Gay Nightlife in Porto

    by k_kane Written Mar 12, 2003

I've investigated the gay nightlife in Porto quite a bit now. Before I arrived I chatted to some people on the internet and they all told me that the gay bars and clubs were terrible. I've been and I think they are OK, and I think it is a reflection of the culture that a lot of the gay people don't actually like the gay bars.
People tend to start off the night around 11pm at Cafe de Praca, which is very near the Torres de Clerigos in the basement of an open air shopping centre. It is a nice cafe where people go and meet friends for some food or drink. There are a few horrible paintings on the wall though! After that, around 12.30, most people then go to Boyz R Us (what a terrible name for a bar) which is across the square, near the photography museum (old prison). The bar is OK and always very busy. The clientele is from a mixed age group. There are two floors with most people on the floor downstairs, where you can dance. Around 3am, a drag show starts. I have seen drag shows all around the world and I have to say that this is the worst ever. It is so serious which defeats the purpose if you ask me! At this point it is a good time to leave and go to Moinho de Vente (not sure how you spell it). It is less than 5 minutes walk away. It is my favourite place...quite small with nice decor and a big dance floor. When I have been there has been a strip show and a few drag queens. What I did like very much was the music. They played some ecletic UK music that I love. I was very impressed.
The other bar I have been to is Aria, which is about a 10 minute walk away from the others. It is more mixed...straight and gay. It did seem to have a very friendly and fun atmosphere.

Mau Mau have in the 1st floor a nice restaurant. You can eat a very good "picanha", listening very calm music. Then after eat you walk down the stairs and dance all night with very good music.
    Wednesday: Ladys night.
If you don't plan to eat in the restaurant, i sugest to go early, before 1:OO a.m., cause the entrance is going to be dificul after that hour.
    Closed sundays and mondays.

    Dress Code: Shower before. ;)

This night club has a 15 euro cover charge and most drinks are about 7 euros. It is probably the most expensive in town, but at least there are five bars and a huge floor and good looking people.

Dress Code: I suggest dressing up to this venue. No sneakers and no t-shirts.

  • Discos/Nightclubs: Cultural movement in porto

by kenkesey Written Jul 8, 2005

Defined as a ' cultural intervention space' , it's aninteresting place where you can have a drink, see some of the last porto's artist works or listen to some dj's sessions along its 400 m square...

The building itself it's quite interseting ,it's in the Rua Passos Manuel, infront of the Coliseu do Porto, in the 4th floor.
