Shopping streets, Porto
This is Portos main shopping street, when we visited on Saturday afternoon it was bustling with locals of all ages. Designer boutiques, shoe shops, book shops, household goods, stationery, jewellery, music etc can all be found. These cater for all budgets.
As well as the shops and malls leading off this thoroughfare, there were hawkers and food stalls.
I'm afraid I had to limit myself to window shopping (This was a budget trip!), but with the money I'd saved, I treated myself to a pot of tea at the famous Majestic cafe which is located on this street (see my Restaurant and Things to Do tips for more info)
Shops usually open Monday - Friday 09.00 - 18.00 /19.00 or 20.00 hrs and Saturday 09.00 - 13.00. Some shops close for an hour at lunch time.
Some of the larger shops open on Sundays.
My following tips cover some of Portos traditional shopping experiences
What to buy: Leather shoes and bags, Clothing, house hold linens - embroidered bedding and table cloths , ceramics and pottery, azulejo tiles
What to pay: As little or as much as You want
Rua de Santa Catarina is a pedestrian street in city centre / downtown. Here you will finds loads of shops. Nowadays, most shops on this street are international makes, such as Zara, Mango, Metro Kids and so on. But if you are looking for "traditional" shops just look at side streets and you will find those shops that remind of "old times" selling delicious bread and cakes and tasty cheese, bookshops, old fashioned shoe shops, amongst many other. Take a stroll in those side streets and observe locals doing daily shopping, it's worth it.
This street is the biggest concentration of shops in Porto. There is also a compact four level mall on this street. It does include a lot of designer stores, which I saw Miss Sixty jeans on the cheap but I also saw Pumas for a ridiculous price. It is a nice place to waste sometime and you might get lucky. I did fall in love with the store Misaku that has cheapy cheap cheap handbags.
Walking on this street you can buy whatever you want anywhere..
As you can see in the picture, you can buy nice jewelry handmade, bags, hats...
It's not a shop... it's a very beautifull street, known for the amazings stores... You can buy there almost everything...
What to buy: Clothes, shoes, well... everything
What to pay: Your budjet
The whole central area is full of various shops, but the main shopping zone is East of Avenida dos Aliados.
