overpriced waterfront cafes by arasnosliw The cafes on the waterfront, although oh-so picturesque, are rather expensive because they cater to tourists visiting ribeira. I payed several euros for a coffee (café) which might only cost 0.50 Euros elsewhere.

A number of the cafés and restaurants place a plate of nice looking apettizers (olives, cooked meat, cheese, bread etc) on your table as you sit down. Unless you make a point of not touching them they are added toyour total bill and they are not cheap. I was surprised to find that a single portion of these appetisers cost as much as the total for two main meals and drinks! So you should avoid this trap or at least confirm with the staff the cost of these before you dive right in and eat them. They are tasty though.

Baghdad Bar on the Boavista High Street advertises itself as 'Top Bar'. Wheter this means topless bar is unknown, but several friends reported going in at 5pm, and being surprised it was empty, but even more surprised when they were charged 26 Euro for 2 beers and a Vodka & Orange. On leaving, a couple of lithe looking women were entering, and headed into a back room - Strippers? Anyhow, dont bother, its a complete rip-off. Leave a Comment

The transit in the centre of Porto is very intense and is really hard to drive in for every people who doesn't know the city very well. Take a cab or another public transport, and let the own car away from the centre. Leave a Comment

Don´t buy Vinho do Porto in the wine tasting places along River Duoro. The guided tours are worth going, but the wine itseld is cheaper in any supermarket. Leave a Comment

be prepared that you'll have to wait in pubs for your coffee (or smth) more than usual, but there is some charm in that :) Leave a Comment

Be aware with your belongings at the train stations! They haven't got much surveilance and are somwhow famous for pickpocketing...
Keep an eye on your belongings while you go around the stations. Leave a Comment
