The Telly Tubby Countryside

by blint

I love the countryside of Alentejo the most. It's just so perfect! It's like Tell Tubby land! Driving though Alentejo. The sun was Shining; Playing Simon and G. in the car and eating a toffie crisp which I hadn't been able to have for years as they don't sell them in Spain!

Minho

by bambino36

In the north-western part of the country lies this beautiful region of dense vegetation and profound historic background. It was here, in the city of Guimarães, that Portugal's first King, Dom Afonso Henriques, was born in the beginning of the 12th century, having then extended the kingdom to the south, in what was considered as one of the most heroic actions of the Christian Reconquest. The inheritance of a distant past can be seen everywhere. In this real garden that is the Minho, we find the perfect harmony between the sea, the countryside, the rivers and the mountains. And that harmony is spread out all over this region. From the ancient fortresses and the breathtaking landscapes of the river minho valley to the atmosphere and bucolic scenery of the river Lima valley in towns like Ponte da Barca, Ponte de Lima or the city of Viana do Castelo, spread along the north side of the Lima...

Costa de Lisboa (Lisbon Coast)

by bambino36

The so called coast of Lisbon offers an impressive and rich diversity. Nearby Lisbon, Sintra's beautiful wooded heights and magnificent palaces invite one to dream about paradise. The town, declared world heritage by UNESCO, offers everything: palaces, dense forests, romantic and exotic parks and gardens, churches and monuments. It's difficult to chose what to visit in the Coast of Lisbon. Mafra with its imponent Convent, the nearby picturesque fishing village of Ericeira, the stylish seaside resorts on the way to Cascais, the verdant Serra da Arrábida and characteristic Sesimbra, the Sado estuary that serve the industrial city of Setúbal and of course the numerous beautiful beaches. What I like the most in the Coast of Lisbon are the romantic and exotic parks of Sintra and the beautiful village of Ericeira

Distrito Lisboa

by micas_pt

Lisbon is the main city in this district, situated on the coast and bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and by River Tejo. In this district you should visit Lisboa and some of its delightful surroundings such as:. Belém, a tribute to Portuguese Discoveries overseas, where you will find some of the most proheminent Portuguese Monuments (also classified by Unesco as World Heritage). Sintra , a World Heritage site. Cabo da Roca (lighthouse and sea), the most Western spot in Portugal. Ericeira, for surfers . Mafra, with an amazing Convent and a Natural Park. Queluz, to visit the beautiful National Palace. Cascais, a beautiful seaside town

Portugal

by micas_pt

Portugal is located in Peninsula Iberica, is bathed by the Atlantic and borders Spain. Apart from the mainland, there are also 2 archipelagos: Madeira and Azores.Portugal is divided into 18 Districts (in the mainland), and 2 Autonomous Regions – Azores and Madeira. In the following General Tips, I will describe each of the Districts and Islands that I have already visited. Unfortunately, I still haven’t visited them all. I have done pages for some of them; if I have a page about any location on the district I will add a link to it.

Where to get money

by ncfg

In Portugal you will not have any trouble to find banks and ATM machines to take Euros, the currency used in Portugal. There are several Banks: BES, BCP, GGD and others. On my pic you can see the huge building of Caixa Geral de Depositos (CGD) in Lisbon.

Distrito Vila Real

by micas_pt

Vila Real District is situated at the centre of the northern region in Portugal. It is the “core” of Douro vineyard area, and provides some of the most beautiful landscapes in Portugal – the slopes of the mountains covered in vineyards overlooking River Douro. While visiting this District, don’t miss the capital city – Vila Real, although I think one day to explore this city is more than enough. It is, however, a good base to explore the region. Be sure not to miss:. Casa de Mateus, a fabulous palace on the outskirts of the city, with beautiful gardens and tasty manufactured jams.. Pinhão, a lovely village bathed by River Pinhão, where it meets River Douro. Pinhão’s train station is considered as the most beautiful train station in Portugal, and it has amazing panels made in azulejos depicting daily scenes from the vineyards and the grapes harvests.. Sabrosa, a quiet little town with...

Distrito Porto

by micas_pt

Porto is the main city of this district. While visiting this northern district, located by the sea and bathed by River Douro, you shouldn’t miss:. Porto, the second city in Portugal, with a beautiful old city centre, classified by Unesco as World Heritage site. River Douro, and enjoy a boat tour with magnificent views and landscapes. Boat cruises range from 1h30m to whole day or even more than one day. a visit to a wine cellar and tasting of the renowned sweet Porto wine. Amarante one of my favourite towns up North, just about 50km from Porto, is an enchanting magical town, bathed by River Tamega. The north Portugal has great food, mainly meat, so don’t forget to taste it!
