Wine-growing region - Bairrada
Bairrada is a region of flat and fertile terrain -the name comes from its soils' nature, the clay (barro)- with a mild climate influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic, between Vouga and Mondego rivers and extending from the foot of the Caramulo and Buçaco hills too the dunes and beaches on the coast. Bairrada has a long and grand tradition of vine growing, and a reputation for great wines from quality grape varieties, such as Baga for red wines and Bical for whites. The red wine produced here is noted for its smoothness and suavity, deep in color and full-bodied, a balanced alcoholic degree; make good stocks that get better with aging acquiring a brownish hue as it ages. Some of the names to retain are Caves Aliança, Real Companhia Velha, Sogrape, Luis Pato, among so many good wines in the region.The rosé ranges in color and are fresh and fruity.
