by Faracy I love Bairro Alto! Its old, windy, and one of the few places on earth where one can go shopping for clothes and drink until the wee hours of the morning. Bars are often tiny, and the crowds spill into the streets... this is a good thing really if you like to watch people. I feel strangely safe in this area, much safer than I do in most American cities out at night... The atmosphere is happy, but generally not agressive. Bad things certainly can happen, but it isn't the norm. Meet as many Portuguese people as you can, and you will have a lovely night. There is an ambience in the air that anything is possible.. its true. I suggest drinking a few capirhinhas.. its the finest drunk on earth. They might be Brazilian, but the Portuguese do a good job too. Have a flaming absinto if you're feeling balsy, or just poetic. Ginja does not mix well with anything, and should be avoided at all costs.. the stuff with the cherries in it. Superbock is the cheap beer of choice it seems among the locals.
I would suggest not wearing shorts, or tennis shoes.. this is up to you, you see just about anything out here. There is any kind of bar one can think of in this area, as well as cheap places to eat. Thus you can go to a place where you feel comfortable dressed as you are. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: Bairro Alto

Portugal - Lisbon Bairro Alto by salinhopt Like the Alfama, the Bairro Alto (Upper City) preserves the characteristics of the Lisbon of yore. In location and population, it once was the heart of the city. Many of its buildings survived the 1755 earthquake. Today, it's home to some of the finest fado cafes in Lisbon, making it a center of nightlife. It's also a fascinating place to visit during the day, when its charming, narrow cobblestone streets and alleys, lined with ancient buildings, can be appreciated in the warm light coming off the sea. This area comes alive at night, luring visitors and natives with fado, food, discos, and small bars. Lisbon's budget restaurants, the tascas, abound, together with more deluxe eateries. Victorian lanterns light the streets, and people stroll leisurely. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Casino Estoril by Imaniac The biggest casino in Europe is situated in Estoril, just outside Lisbon. Of course you can go gambling here, but there's more. There's live music almost every day, there's a big jazz cafe inside and one of the biggest and most beautiful water organs oustide the building. Leave a Comment Theme: Casino

The place is between Belem and Bairo Alto.. not sure what's it is called exactly. It's a street on the edge of the river lined with pubs, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs. The vibe is fun and welcoming. As we were passing by we heard a Bob Marley cover from inside an Irish Pub and decided to make it our destination for the night. A classic rock cover band inside was fun, beers were great.

Dr.Firas in Portugal by dr.firas No one is here to take a picture of me in the night, well then I'll do it myself LOL after walking and watching and discovering, I think I need a break and to have dinner before I go back to the Hotel to sleep! Restaurants in general are opened to a very late hour in Lisbon, which is good! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Each and every town has some sort of Disco or nightclub and a bar of some sort. I have had the most fun in some of the smaller town in the local bars (which are pastry shops during the day) having a drink and listening to local music than in the bigger clubs like in Lisbon. The challenge is the language as most people in the little towns do not speak English and my Portuguese is real bad. If you stay in a small town or village try a night on the town in the local bar. You just never know what will happen. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
