Caldo Verde, Barrio Alto: a lovely evening out
WE went up to Barrio Alto on our first night in Lisbon as we were told that was the best place to hear some Fado music.We wandered around a long time trying to choose a place but could not see much difference between them. The prices were much the same and so were the menus. We were solicited by several men trying to entice us into their places.Eventually we chose one mainly on the basis of it being small and quiet ,as we did not want to sit somewhere where there would be large bus groups of tourists.The place was pleasant if a little too empty but started to fill up gradually as the show went on.There were different singers, two different women and one man, accompanied by the traditional Fado instruments. It was very pleasant,and the meal was nice too. Can't tell you if it was a high quality show as I have no clue about Fado but we certainly enjoyed ourselves.
