Bring a raincoat and clothes you can layer

by tampa_shawn

I definately needed extra space in my luggage for this trip. I am not normally a shopper but the woolen goods available in the small cities was devine! The weather in Portugal varies widely throughout the day so be sure to bring a raincoat with you and dress in layers when your walking around townGood shoes are a must. You will be walking a lot! I found everything I needed was available here Bring lots of film

Cascais and Estoril:In the beginning of the 20th century the small fishing village Cascais became a popular seaside resort of the well-to-do. Now over 30.000 people are living in this town, some 26 km away from Lisbon, among them many Germans. If you walk on the rather nice promenade along the beach you come to neighbouring Estoril, another famous resort with a Casino, many elegant houses and an exclusive spa.By car: from Lisbon take the Estrada MarginalBy train: every half hour from Estaçaõ Cais do SodréCascais and Estoril

It all depends on when you're coming!!In the winter, bring warm clothes, but you will hardly find temperatures below 5ºc.In the summer bring light clothes, specially if you're heading to the southern beaches! The average temperature is around 15ºc. Study Abroad

Well, we were there in September/October and it wasn´t really hot. Nights werepretty cold actually. Therefore one or two warm jumpers, rain gear, good walking shoes if you don´t spend your time in cars or at the beach only.

For twelve days in Portugal my husband and I took two carry ons (one for each of us) and stored a folded up duffle bag in his carry on. When we returned we put our clothes in the duffle bag and checked it and our carry ons, stuffed with gifts, were taken on the plane with us. This worked out very well! I took two pair of shoes: one I wore and I packed a pair of comfortable, but sturdy, sandals. I took one three piece microfiber outfit, two more pairs of pants, a dress, skirt and blouse, and a couple of extra tops. An extra set of underwear. We took underwear that we could wash out at night and would dry by the morning. And one lightweight, water repellant jacket. All the clothes I took I wore more than once. My husband took two extra pairs of pants and about 5 cotton and polo type shirts; socks, microfiber underwear and an extra pair of shoes. In Aveiro, halfway through our trip, we had...

The natural advantages of a sunny country with diverse geographic features have turned Portugal into a chosen destination for many vacationers. It is an ideal place for practicing water sports and playing golf, offering modern tourism facilities, and quaint and personalized means of accommodation, such as 'turismo de habitação' (privately owned homes ranging from wonderful farm-houses to manor-houses), 'hotéis de charme or pousadas'. For centuries Portugal has kept his greatest treasure: a renowned reputation of hospitality that makes the country a haven of congeniality and safety.

i recommend a lock for your bag if staying at the hostel... heard too many horror stories.. comfy sandals or flip-flops for the beach, light cotton clothes (or other breatable material), but also bring something with long sleeves; at night, it tends to get a bit chilly. don't forget to pack your sunblock, you don't want to buy sunblock there because it's pricier and, i had a tough time finding an oil-free sunblock. And remember to bring something to lie down on. =)

You really dont need much especially if you arent staying long a rucksack ids always a frat item to take with you as it is most versatile The days are very hot with lots of sunshine but be warned the evenings can get very cold with lots of wind. We took jumpers but other people wore flecces You really dont need any special toiletries or medical thing the chemist here will prescribe most things and are most knowledgeable No problems here full range of films and batteries A wingd break is very usefull as when the wind blows off the land it feels like a sand blaster

If you are travelling in the summer months you are safe taking light weight clothing. However, if you visit Fatima you will not be allowed to enter with shorts. Men must wear pants (no jeans), women must wear skirts or pants (again, no jeans). It is adviseable not to wear high-heeled shoes as most sidewalks in Lisbon are cobblestone. The North regions tend to be cooler so take along a sweater. Winter is mild in the South, colder in the North. I haven't spent winter there so I have no idea what type of clothing to take (sorry!!). Take with you toilet paper as bathrooms do not have it. When you walk in, the attendant will supply you with two or three squares and that's it!! The sun in the Algarve is strong during the summer so take sun screen with you and a hat as well. In regards to washrooms, if I am not mistaken they want you to leave behind a few coins when you leave to pay for...

Apologies, but travel agencies and real estate agents are terrible liars about our weather. Yes, it is true we have more hours of sunlight than anywhere else in Europe, so use sunblock. July and August can be brutally hot - drink lots of water, not alcohol; be extremely careful about the beach or hiking. Sping and fall are delightful, absolutely gorgeous and longer than in northern Europe. Now, the bad part: there is winter in the Algarve. No snow, but the months of Dec/Jan get frequent rain, and though the temperatures are often pleasantly warm during the day our local architecture and general absence of heating means that houses and hotel rooms are often bone-chillingly cold at night! During the winter bring long pants, sweatshirts and/or sweaters and a waterproof jacket. Be prepared to sleep in sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Patent medicines and medicated products (powders for...
