Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: You should remember that even in such a sunny place as Madeira it rains sometimes:)few meters above sea level it is fine, but when you go hiking in the mountains the weather is more hursh. Rain coat must be on your list:) When it is shiny at one side of the island at the same time it rains and blows with a strong wind on the other. So favourite blouse or sweater also need to be packed:) And I don't need to mention about good firm boots when you go climbing and hiking:)))and obviously a backpack.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Beaches are mostly stony (there are some sandy too but rare) so it is good idea to have a shoes that you can swim in, or just get into a water.
Miscellaneous: If you like fishing you can take your fishing rod. I do not know if it is needed or how to get a licence for fishing though.
If you are planing to drive around the island don't forget your driving licence:)))
