Well, Funchal has a great nightlife; you can take a walk by the Marina (harbour) and take a drink in a bar or simply wander around.
When I was in Madeira I couldn’t miss the traditional restaurant O Parreira, which offered us a great dinner and a musical band after the meal.
We could dance and enjoyed their music, which was pretty good.

madeira was awesome, and the clubs were GREAT! one club in particular sticks in my mind, and that is vespas , for it's young fun crowd, all night party, and just for being the best night EVER!
things didn't get cranking til at least 1am, and we stayed til 8am, when the sun came out! the portuguese are so crazy, they just wouldn't leave, not that i wanted to either! paula, who had to work at 9am at her hairdresser's salon, was the wildest of us all, and once we left, she just went straight to work! now that's dedication!
located in the dock area, vespas is an old warehouse transformed to an awesome club. on arrival, girls got a yellow vespas cup, and if a guy went to the bar with your cup, you got a free drink! guaranteed to keep you drinky drinky all night long!

around the christmas -new year period, most towns have a little carnival, or some sort of festivity.
in camara de lobos, where we stayed, there was a small fun fair with the usual fairy floss, popcorn stalls, bumper cars, a few games etc. we would head down every night, 4 foreign girls, and obviously, since it's a small town, everyone at the carnival knew we weren't from the town.
this resulted in boys following us EVERYWHERE we went! if we left the carnival and went to the beachfront, they were there. if we stopped at the little market for some cola, they where there! it was a good laugh until.....
paulo went to kiss amanda! poor amanda, just shy of 13 years old, is riding a bumper car with a boy who offered to have her sit with him of course, when all of a sudden, one of the guys who ran the bumper cars went up to her and gave her a big sloppy kiss! she screamed, and ran away. we had to run home, and i have a photo of her, head in her suitcase, brushing her teeth furiously to get the stench of nasty portuguese boy away! loool, i had never laughed so hard in my life! small town carnivals sure bring alot of action! hehe.
so the next day we went back, nothing else to do in the town, and this time, walking back from carnival, we had 4 boys following us 4 girls. i was freaking out, as the way home involved some dark alleys and stairs leading up the side of the mountain. i opted for the well lit street way, which involved a longer walk. the girls agreed, and we walked the long way home. the 4 guys stopped us, and kept asking us questions. we told them to please leave us alone, but they just kept following. we didnt want them knowing where we lived, so we walked to someone elses house! we managed to shake them off. after all this, we decided the carnival was NOT the best place for us sexy chicas to be hanging around! lol Leave a Comment Theme: Family Spot

madeira is known world wide for it's amazing fire works display for new year's eve. the millenium celebrations were even more amazing, and some of the best that the madeiran's claim to have ever seen!
because funchal is built in a valley, with hills all around it, they light fireworks from all the different angles on the hillside, surrounding the city. they also had fire works on barges in the sea, adding an even more dramatic effect.
after the fire works, we headed off to the casino, which wasn't that great, but we still had an awesome night! Leave a Comment Theme: Family Spot

thou' Funchal can offer all and every kind of night spots, a stroll along the path, side by side with the ocean, the marina and the port were beautifull cruise liners dock and brings a lot of tourists, is a good suggestion for a nice evening and night. Leave a Comment Theme: Family Spot

To enjoy a typical dinner of "Espetada" this place will satisfy all. Grilled beef is served on about 4 foot long speers which are then suspended on hooks above the table for the diner to serve themself. One sits on long rows of tables while being entertained with folklore dances and Fado singers. After the meal, the performers will get off the stage and invite people to join them by forming a long Polonaise in between the tables. Great fun!
Again, this was part of an organized tour in a mini bus (usually 6-8 people). After the dinner, before returning to your Hotel there will be a stop at a viewpoint to admire an intersting view over the city of Funchal by night.
Price per person for all (Dinner and wine included) EU 30.00 We chose "Top Atlantico" for our tours.

We had a little rest in our room and got ready for the fado night. Fados are typical Portuguese songs from the mainland Portugal, and I missed listening to them three years ago when I was in Portugal, so I wanted to hear them now. When we went to the tourist office we asked about the places where we could listen to fados and got names of two restaurants and decided to go to Arsenio?s where they started the performances already at 20.00. It was a nice place in the old part of the city and we found it easily. We had salad for a starter (huge portion) and sword fish as the main course with half bottle of house white wine (I had one glass, Ulla almost two and rest we left behind) and a cup of strong coffee as dessert. Sword fish was delicious! One of the best meals I?ve ever had abroad. We both enjoyed it very much. It was quite expensive, too, but we thought we could spoil ourselves once with a good meal. Fados were played by two oldish guitar players and sung by two ladies and one man (who also served in the restaurant, maybe the owner) who was so full of himself. We really loved the songs very much. One of the ladies was bit older and somewhat withdrawn with her performance while the other, who was younger and big, was full of life and it was easy to see that she really enjoyed singing. At the table next to us sat two Finnish couples and one of the ladies was a well-known Finnish TV personality and she was so drunk and behaved as if she was a queen and known by everybody there. Disgusting! We had to run to catch the last bus to our hotel. It seemed to be a custom to us to run after buses there! Leave a Comment Theme: Live Music

If you like fado, you 'll find a little bar, behind the monte teleferic, it's nice and authentic, the music are perfomed, by many artists, men, women and even a little boy with a mervellous voice.
