Favorite thing: You have an excellent view of the airport from the ship on the way to Porto Santo.
10 km long, gold-yellow sand beach makes Santo an attractive beach resort also known as "Ilha Dourada", golden island. In August the beach is the goal of many Madeirans and Portuguese, the remaining months you can have the beach to yourself. Within three-hours by taxi you have seen most of the island.

Favorite thing: When in Madeira I would suggest a day trip to Porto Santo. First of all it offers a beautiful sandy beach and of course the ferry trip which gives you the opportunity of seeing Madeira from the ship Madeira with its rugged coastline.
Besides the beach there is not much to do and see. It is really a desert island
Fondest memory: It was hot and there was not much shelter on the beach so we went to a hotel which was on the beach and rented an umbrella also we were able to change and have a shower.
It was wonderful getting into the water and enjoying the ocean.

Favorite thing: Porto Santo still remains a unknown resort in the Atlantic. Many Europeans know very well the Canary Islands but don't ever heard about Porto santo.
If you like packed beaches with tourists than Porto Santo is not your place. But if you like peace of mind, 9 Km beach just for you then Porto santo sounds great! ;)

Favorite thing: Somewhat unknown, seemingly discreet at times, is the fact that Christopher Columbus lived, married and even had child (Diogo Columbo) on the island of Porto Santo. Christopher Columbus in keeping with the typical activities of his Genoese heritage - trade, plied back and forth between the Madeiran Archipelago and Lisbon selling sugar and sugar cane. It was only after the untimely death of his wife (the daughter of the Porto Santo Governor) that eventually led him to leave the island and venture into the schemes and plans to discover the New World, or the new route to India.

Favorite thing: The beach here although this was the weekend and many Madeirans to travel to porto santo you can really stretch out without really meeting too many people.
Fondest memory: The beach where my daughter and I buried each other in the sand and done summersaults into the embankment.

Favorite thing: At Calheta beach you'll find many natural cliffs by the sea. The landscape is great and also the climat. Take the change to walk from Calheta Beach to the village, you'll not regret it.
