The "veredas" or trails had been the way that our ancestors found to reach the sea by the mountains. At that time there were no roads, only trails. The trails were the only way to reach far away locations.
Today locals still use these trails to reach their fields and plantations.

In Santana there is great parties called in Madeira "arraiais". The flags still remember the time of the discoveries of the island.
You can lso eat "espetadas" in santana. It's meat in a laurel branch stick. Hmmm

All aroun madeira you'll find many levadas. They take the water to all corners of santana. It's a perfect path to see all the district by foot.

Poor, rich, it doesn,t matter. In Santana all the people have flowers at home. It's like a simbol of Santana people.

Corn is teh most important cereal in santana. People dry the corn sometimes on the roof top of their houses or sametimes in a string.
Many locals go to Funchal city to sell corn.

Santana offers many tropicall fruits, like this strange fruit called Passionfruit-banana. Inside it's passion fruit but it looks like a banana. Really tasty. Hmmm
