This is the main village, where is located the airport and the main port of the Island.
Places to visit:
Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição - This is one of the most impressive church of the whole archipelago;
Church of São Boaventura - This barroque church is part of a franciscan convent, which construction began around 1641;
Museum of Flores - This museum is housed in two buildings (franciscan convent of São Boaventura and Museum house of Pimentel de Mesquita).
Natural swimming pools, located not far from Occidental Hotel, await the lovers of the sea.
The waterfalls, which are spectacular, are many! Maybe, the best known is located at Fajã Grande. This beautiful waterfall drop down to a spot called Poço do Bacalhau, a natural pool where you can enjoy a good bath or even swim.
There are seven maar lakes to visit in this Island. They are located not far form each other and in the centre of the Island.
If you are travelling from Santa Cruz, cross the Island to the West side. Lakes Comprida and Funda are easily reach, behind them you find, on foot, Seca and Branca. Going a little more to the South, one reach the Lakes Rasa and Funda of Lajes.
Nice town with beautiful buildings like the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (one of the most imposing churches of the Açores) and the Church of São Boaventura (17th cent., valuable baroque building, part pf the Franciscan Monastery). There is also an ethnographical museum.
Picturesque town and fishing port surrounded by green fields. Here you can visit the chapel of Nossa Senhora das Angústias (18th cent.), the church of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios (18th cent.) and the church of Senhora do Rósario.
In the central part of the island there are seven lakes: Funda, Branca, Seca, Comprida, Rasa, Lomba, Funda das Lajes. The nature surrounding the lakes is breathtaking: the green of the valleys, the hydrangeas, the azaleas, the small roses…
On no other Azorean island I've seen so many and so beautiful waterfalls as here in Flores. Between Fajãzinha and Ponta da Fajã there are almost 20 waterfalls
Ilha do Corvo, the smaller island of the Azores, can be seen from the northern part of Ilha das Flores
The island is very small and it's possible to drive around it in only one day, however, the beauty of the scenery makes us stop to admire it and the journey can be long
The island has seven lagoons. They're located in the place of volcanic craters.
The "Lagoa Funda" has more than 100m depth.
