Mariserra serves fantastic fresh fish, all grilled, and their desserts are exceptional as well. They are located a bit out of the way, a good hour's hike from the center of Ponta Delgada or a ten-minute taxi ride, but it's well worth the fare, because the fish is delicious and the views are amazing - you are seated right above the beach and can watch the ocean waves break while you work on your shrimp and pineapple salad.
Casa Marisca is a small restaurant in the eastern part of Ponta Delgada that does really good seafood and has friendly service and a nice atmosphere.
I have eaten there a couple of times and always been very happy with the good food and also with the very decent prices.
It´s a small local hangout where you don´t see amny tourists and it´s not the place if you like things to be flashy, but the kinda place if you like it to be authentic.
From the outside the place looks like something that might be closed, but once you are inside the place is really cosy and the service always very friendly.
Favorite Dish: I really like the fish called Abrotea.
It´s actually one of the cheaper things on the menu, but it has really tender meat and is absolutely fantastic.
Restaurante Sao Pedro is a small restaurant right next to the church with the same name.
It´s a cosy little place with a homey atmosphere and very friendly waiting staff.
I have eaten there a few times and the food is quite good.
The dishes are typically azoran and there is a lot of fish on the menu, but they have some nice beef dishes too that i have tried.
The place can be quite busy so it can be a good idea to reserve a table as the place is often full.
Favorite Dish: Personally i think they do a really good swordfish at the Sao Pedro restaurant.
Swordfish is called "espadarte" in portugese by the way.
Barriga Cheia means the full stomach and that is what you can get here for a very decent price.
It´s a little restaurant right in the center of Ponta Delgada that is very popular with the locals because of the decent food and the good prices.
I have been there a few times and always found it really friendly and welcoming.
And the food is good there.
You can get a main dish for 7-8 euros and mabye even cheaper than that if you chose one of the menus.
Favorite Dish: I almost always opt for the fish like i do in most portugese restaurants.
The local fish "abrotea" is my favotire.
This is another small popular café and restaurant where you can have a lunch for cheap. Main dishes cost 4 EUR. Food is good, but menu is limited.
About the location, it can't be better. Just is the centre!
This is not a very special restaurant if we are talking about decoration, but they offer, definitively, the best steak of the Island. Besides this dish, many other local delicious dishes are available, such as pork dishes and seafood.
If you wish to try our regional wines, I advise Basalto or Frei Gigante wines, from Pico island.
Favorite Dish: The house steak (Bife à Aliança) is the great speciality of this restaurant. They make it in vinho de alhos, a sauce made with garlic, red pepper and local red wine, and is served, usually, with fried potatoes, unless you wish salad. A cheaper option, but not compared with the house steak, is normal steak (bitoque)
For dessert, try our pineapple.
This is a good restaurant to have a good buffet for cheap, especially from Monday to Friday(€6.5), excluding drinks and desserts. They have a variety of cold and hot dishes, including pork and cow meat, fish and vegetables.
Favorite Dish: Celery and chick pea salad.
Ambience isn't very special, but prices are cheap for the good food quality they offer. Tables are available both inside and outside the restaurant.
Menu is limited, but prices are from only 4€ (dishes of the day) to 14€ (restaurant beef steak).
Favorite Dish: If you choose fish, I advise you grilled tuna; for meat, try the speciality of beef steak (bife à casa).
We took a walk along the promenade of Portas do Mar when I suddenly spotted an ice cream shop. It was Farggi, a nice Spanish ice cream and fine pastries shop. Pleasant and attractive ambience, though the decoration very much reminded of Haagen-Dazs, another giant ice cream chain.
In addition to preparing high-quality ice creams, which are the result of the excellent ingredients they use and traditional preparation methods, Farggi offers a selection of other delicious products, from milkshakes, sorbets, crepes, waffles, cakes to coffee and chocolate.
Favorite Dish: Oh, it was so difficult to choose from so many interesting flavour combinations, such as coconut with ribbons of chocolate and pistachio bits, dulce de leche (sweet milk caramel), greek yoghurt, green tea with lemon sorbet, mango and raspberry sorbet, Swiss chocolate, Sicilian pistachio, turron, yoghurt with blackberries, yoghurt with peach and mango...
I had turrón, smooth and creamy ice cream featuring the authentic flavour of Jijona turrón (chunky almond nougat), and it tasted really good!!
This is not a special place, but popular among locals. Ideal for breakfast or lunch, especially if you are travelling on a low budget.
Favorite Dish: Usually codfish is a good option. Anyway, ask for the dish of the day!
One good restaurant where you find The Traditional Azorean cuisine. Ambience and quality are excellent, but the quantity of food they serve, in my opinion, isn't enough for one person.
Every Saturday at 20:00 you can enjoy your meal while listening to the Fado.
Favorite Dish: Regional meat stew (alcatra de novilho) and tuna fish steak (lombo de atum no forno). For dessert, try Bean pudding (pudim de feijão).
Located just one leg from the High School Antero do Quental, this is still a traditional Casa de Pasto, especially the main entrance. The new room, located on the back, is like a normal restaurant and also you have opportunity to taste a meal in the open space under some trees.
Food is always good and service is good according to the price and conditions. Anyway, if you are looking for a good steak, I mean tender, this isn't the right place.
Pork chops and tun fish frided or grilled (albacora assada) are good options.
Favorite Dish: My favourite dishes are fried tun fish and baked meat. For dessert, try our pineapple, rice pudding or molotof.
If you are looking for a great buffet served in a hotel, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to visit this good restaurant located at Hotel São Miguel Park.
Favorite Dish: For 20 EUR you have a wide variety of cold and hot food, including drinks.
Meal of the day was just 5,25 (prato do dia). When I was there, it was lasagne. Very good and a big portion, too. Some other people had steaks and they were big and tasty and these people were happy enough to go there again to have some more steaks the next day.
This is a truly inexpensive local restaurant where you can have a full meal for 5 euros. Also drinks and karaoke singing. We heard a rumour about this place from other people who hd been and were happy to recommend it. So we had to see for ourselves.
Favorite Dish: Our meal of the day was fish soup (consisting of fish and potatoes) , then, a plate of chunks of fish on top of sliced potatoes with a big shrimp on top of the heap. Well, what can I say... they don't use much spices at this restaurant... he-he-he ... at least it was a warm meal and the coffee was hot.
