Sol-Mar Centro Comercial: Smaller mall by the strand avenue

by Zirpsis Updated Mar 1, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Gift shops, grocery store, clothes, jewelry, restaurants etc.

What to buy: You should buy local wines and liqueurs (especially maracuja and ananas), local cheese, and local tea. Also the local handicrafts are nice souvenirs to take home.

Decathlon.: Very good outdoor shop with very good prices.

Decathlon is a shop in the outskirts of Ponta Delgada that has a big variety of outdoor equipment and some very good prices.
I have shopped there several times when i have been to Ponta Delgada and bought clothes and some very good walking boots that i have done several long distance hikes with.
The service has always been very pleasant and friendly there and i have found a bigger sortiment in that shop than i have in all the outdoor shops i have been to in Copenhagen where i have done lot's of outdoor shopping too over the years.

    Parque Atlântico: The Bigger Mall

by Zirpsis Updated Feb 29, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Here you can find hundreds of shops. This is a big mall. In the tourist map, it was marked with a picture of a blue whale and it took me a while to understand what it was. At first, I thought it was a sea world of some kind. hahaha

What to buy: You should buy some local tea, Cha Gorreana, some local brandy, Maracuja or Ananas. You should buy some local hand rolled cigars to take home, even if you don't smoke...

    Green Grocer: Fresh Fruit

by kaloz Updated Feb 17, 2015

On our way into Ponta Delgada, we stopped by a green grocer to get some fruit in case we wanted to snack during the day. Peggy especially likes those tiny oranges (Oh, yeah, clementines). We got a small assortment of fruits. Celia stated that she would not eat the fruit because the store was dirty. "Dirty," I said, "What makes you think that?" "There were flies in there." There is no sense arguing, and by the time we had our snack she had forgotten all about her objection.

    Supermercado: Put down the cookies

by kaloz Written Feb 17, 2015

It is alway fun to go into a grocery to see what they have. Odd flavors, regional items. For some reason I did not get a photo, but as this was the start of Holy week, they had Easter bread with a hard boiled egg, still in the shell, baked into the loaf.
