by ncfg Well, if you want a really good and typical restaurant don't miss D. Roberto restaurant. It is located 5 km from Bragança, on the way to Quintanilha, in Gimonde, the old village of three bridges. You just look my photo; it is a medieval house with wood balconies and the inside with a beautiful decoration with old typical objects, just the perfect environment to have a great dinner. This restaurant is famous because the called Posta transmontana, it is gorgeous meat of the local cows. You can see pics of the inside and outside on its webside but the info is in Portuguese. Seating Area as Seen from the Roman Ruins by Bwana_Brown This day had involved a long drive north from the Algarve, followed by a bit of an experience driving around the many crowded streets of Evora to find our accommodations! By the time we finally made it to the centre of beautiful Evora, we were thankful that it was another sunny and hot day for doing some short walks. However, at the same time, once we had passed through the portals of the ancient walls, we were ready to just sit down for a while to chill-out and enjoy where we were at that moment in time!
Immediately adjacent to the Roman era ruins of Diana's Temple, we were fortunate to stumble upon the Jardim do Paco. It was so pleasant to sit under the shade of their huge courtyard trees while we sipped on cold Imperial beers (E1) and vinho verdes (E4). Following this quick refreshment, we ventured forth for a proper walking tour of the city. However, the afternoon did not seem to be getting any cooler, so we eventually retired to the Jardim again. This time we enjoyed a light snack of 'tosta de queijo' or toasted cheese sandwiches (only E1.90 each). In theory, this restaurant was nothing 'extra special', but we really enjoyed its relaxed atmospere, sitting outside under its shady trees and savouring its very friendly service! One of our most pleasant memories. Two Happy Guests by Bwana_Brown This had been another long day of driving north from Evora, taking in the hilltop fortifications of Monsaraz and Marvao on the way to our overnight stop in Castelo Branco. It was about 8 PM by the time we had settled in and changed into dinner clothes for a quick look at restaurants in the area. In the end, we decided to return to the hotel because their menu, which we had checked on the way out, looked to be the best of the lot. Upon our return, we were ushered into the hotel dining room and were completely looked after from that point on by their 'maitre d'hotel' in his very smart black suit with its traditional short jacket. He really did everything 'just so', and it was a pleasure to be served so professionally!
For wine, I selected a half-bottle of Borba Alentejo 2002 Red, while Sue had a similar bottle of White wine. Our starter of black olives, cheese and a delicious walnut bread kept us amused while we waited for the main course. In my case, the brussel sprouts in butter with shrimp in curry sauce was delicious. Likewise, Sue's meal of Whiting fish, shrimp and clams with potatoes, sliced carrots ('Real' Verandah style) in sauce was also out of this world. We took our time over this feast and just soaked up the atmosphere. The total cost was E30 (US$39) before the tip, and well worth it! Preparing the sandwiches by Bwana_Brown On four different occasions as we motored around Portugal on our 2500-km trip, we simply pulled our rental car off onto some secluded lane or field whenever the need for lunch overtook us. This usually was the case when we were covering some of the longer distances between places where we had pre-booked our accommodations and, since we mostly were travelling on secondary roads, it was easy to do.
This day, we were getting closer to the north end of Portugal, driving from Guarda to Lamego just south of the Douro River. By noon, we had reached the village of Sernancelhe on a little-used highway. It was a scenic area so we pulled off onto an even smaller road and soon thereafter spotted a very appealing looking field on the side of a hill. It was here that we had one of our typical picnics, consisting of our supplies of bread, cheese, tomatoes and wine that we had bought while passing through Trancoso. While Sue did the work of preparing our buns, I wandered around admiring our little piece of Portugal, enjoying the green of the trees and the 'yellow broom' bushes. The birds were chirping away nicely but, even with my binoculars, it was difficult to actually spot them in the vegetation. by ncfg Well, almost all the towns in Portugal has at lest one Chinese Restaurant. Lucky me! I love Chinese food. The one on my photo i sure recommend you, it is located in Braga (Minho region - Northen Portugal) near the Feira Nova shopping mall. The inside is beautiful and the food very good, so if you are a lover of Chinese food don’t forget the name Muralha da China (Great Wall).
All the dishes are good, but don't forget to eat using the chopsticks ;-) Leave a Comment Theme: Chinese/Dim SumPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Braga

Exterior View by Bwana_Brown On our second night in Lamego, we had returned from a long day-trip to the 'Geraz do Minho' region in northern Portugal, almost to the border with Spain. After a pleasant stroll from our hotel down the steps of the famous 686 step double-staircase in Lamego, we turned to the right off off the treed esplanade onto a parallel street. It was here that we had earlier spotted a Chinese restaurant and decided to give it a try. Once again, at 7:30 PM, we were too early, having the place largely to ourselves. However, a very friendly young Chinese girl showed us to our table. Not surprisingly, she could only speak Chinese and Portugese, but the restaurant had a very good English menu as well as their usual one.
We started with the obligatory beer and wine to go with our 'starter' of Roasted Almonds (E1.75). For main courses, Sue ordered Prawns with Mushrooms (E5) while I went for my old standby of Curried Chicken (E3.75), both accompanied by steamed rice. We had barely finished our almonds when the main dishes arrived, steaming hot! With a half-bottle of wine each (E3 apiece), we both devoured our delicious dishes. By the time we left, an hour after our arrival, the place was starting to fill up. If you want an inexpensive but tasty meal, give this place a try! The total cost including a tip was E21 (US$26). Ready for our First Dinner Meal by Bwana_Brown On our very first evening in Lisbon, we were keen to sample a proper restaurant in the downtown tourist area of the Baixa district. A good spot for this is along Rua das Portas de Santo Antao, a relaxed steeet for pedestrians just to the east of the Praca dos Restauradores. We ended up strolling along here at about 7 PM as the evening light was beginning to fade, and it did not take much encouragement from the restaurant staff to convince us to sit down! We were just about their only customers at the time. There was a nice warm breeze blowing, so they had their paper table coverings held down by various dishes. It was great fun sitting there sipping our wine and watching the pedestrians enjoying the evening airs as the place slowly filled up.
Sue decided that she would try some seafood in the form of their trout with bacon dish. However, they were all out of that, so she had to settle for sea bass with shredded carrots, green beans and boiled potatoes. As for me, I was ready for something a little hotter, so I requested a pit of peri-peri spice on my fried pork chops. It was served with with fries, shredded carrots, onions, tomato and lettuce. Both meals were delicious and a couple of half-bottles each of Meia Encosta wine made this a very enjoyable eating experience! Ah, it was good to be in Portugal! The total cost with a tip was E40 (US$52) and it was well worth it. 'Popular' by Night by Bwana_Brown By this late stage of our trip, we were less than 2 hours from Lisbon, in the very nice seaside town of Peniche, from where we had taken our amazing boat trip out to the 'Ilha da Berlenga' nature preserve. The tour guide who sold us our tickets mentioned that the Popular was a great place for an evening meal, so we decided to give it a try once we returned from our marine excursion.
We lingered as we walked down to the restaurant so it would have a chance to get a little darker and we would not be the first ones there - the Portugese tend to eat later than is our usual habit! However, the restaurant had a nice little crowd when we arrived. After perusing their extensive menu, and remembering what an Irish couple had recommended to us on the boat trip, we decided to try their Fish Stew at E18 (US$22) for two. The dish was quite simple when it came, a bread bun and a soup dish each along with a single large aluminum pot with a large spoon in it. It turned out to be piping hot and delicious with small shrimp, whitefish of some sort, calimari, hunks of potatoes, onions and lots of juice. Along with our standard half-bottles of wine, the meal was well-worth the E30 (US$36) that it came to with a tip! Relaxing in Baixa District by Bwana_Brown We enjoyed strolling around the Baixa area so much that we twice ended up at a cafe on one of the small streets just off the main Rua da Prata. The streets here are mostly traffic free, so the cafes have their tables and chairs set up on the 'cobblestone' streets themselves. Our first experience here was a sit-down after our tiring day of mountain climbing in Sintra, followed by the ascent to St. George's Castle in Lisbon. We returned the next day after we had finished another long walk in the Belem district of Lisbon. It was just great to sit out in the sunshine, or under the umbrellas, watching the people on the street as they passed by. There was even a small three-man band playing on a nearby street corner!
We just had something light here, such as 'tosta mista' (toasted ham, cheese and tomato sandwiches) washed down by a couple of cold beers or chilled white wine. A typical price for the entire meal was E10 (US$12). Pont'a Pe Bar by Day by Bwana_Brown At the end of our second day touring the southwest portion of the Algarve, we were ready for a solid meal when we arrived back at our little village of Aljezur. We cruised around a bit and finally settled on this cute little restaurant located on the main road through the middle of the village. It had actually been recommended to us by one of the locals who was running the village internet cafe! I guess that we should not have been surprised when he strolled in while we were part-way through our meal.
The Pont'a Pe has a relaxed atmosphere with muted lighting and very nice background music as the locals chat away. We were well looked after by the owner as he explained our possible choices from the menu. It was a great spot to wind down our day as we recounted the day's adventures on the beaches and mountains of the Algarve! Sue decided to try a very flavourful local Cod and rice dish served in a bowl while I enjoyed a more conventional meal of grilled chicken pieces with french fries, lettuce and shredded carrots. The total cost including our drinks was E23 (US$30).
